I want to take a picture and make it black and white and add dolor accents from the original color picture to it. How can I do that?

I'm sure there is probably an easier way, but here's how i would do it.

Step 1: duplicate the background layer and title it layer 1

Step2: with layer 1 selected push ctrl+shift+u to desaturate it

Step3: select the eraser and decrease the opacity low, somewhere around 25% or whatever you prefer

Step4: while still on layer 1 erase over the areas you want color

Several hundreds of ways to do this. Magic wand any highlights you want to keep (Layer via copy.)

Then grayscale the original big picture. Then put the highlights over it so you can see them over it.

You might want to change its saturation or how much its highlighted though.
