Is it because going to cinema to watch Harry Potter and Code of Da Vinci movies more popular than going to Church and people are more interested in Harry Potter and Code of Da Vinci books than Bible???

Why does Christianity concern themselves with fictional books??? Is it because Bible is the greatest fictional book ever and doesn't want to lose that status!!!

I can't wait until they finish the Angels & Demons movie. That should ruffle some more feathers.

The problems that I've been told some Christians have with The DaVinci Code is that it asserts that the Bible was wrong (shocker!) and that the Church has been hiding this huge secret for it's own personal gain. My opinion on that matter is, if you don't like the book, or you believe that the research Dan Brown did was factual, don't read it! I don't believe the Bible is factual, so I don't read it. And you don't hear me complaining about it.

As for Harry Potter, I think people who have problems with that are ridiculous! People say they want the book banned because it teaches witchcraft (which it doesn't) and because it will be a bad influence on Christian children. My point there is, if you're such a good Christian, and you're doing such a bang-up job teaching your children your beliefs, but then some childrens books come along and completely undo all of the work you've done teaching them, then apparently you didn't do as great a job teaching it as you thought, now did you?

Grow up people! Not everyone believes what you do, and we're entitled not to. If you don't like the books, or don't want your families reading them, fine....don't! But don't launch huge attacks against the books and their readers, you're just being petty and ridiculous!

I'm a Christian and I've watched all the Harry Potter movies and read the Da Vinci code. I know they are fiction. The Harry Potter movies are good and I do not believe that my kids are going to start doing witchcraft or whatever by watching them. They also know that it is fantasy. The Da Vinci code was a good mystery/thriller, but that's all it was. A good work of fiction. It does not bother me in the least because I know my Jesus was resurrected.

For the Da Vinci Code. That book challenges what we believe and makes us seems like we've been living nothing, but a lie. Many people started to believe that Jesus was married, and that the early church people took out important books of the Bible. None of that is true. All this information was taken from writings of a Christian-like cult. They were not Christians though.

As for Harry Potter, I think some people just don't like their kids reading that witchcraft is good. There are real witches (a lot in Africa), so parents don't want their kids to explore that.

I don't personally have a problem with Harry Potter though. And the Da Vinci code was a fun book to read (bad movie) as long as you take everything in it as fiction.

I've heard of this too though I'm not a Christian.

I sort of get them not liking the Da Vinci Code as it says their saviour married a hooker and had kids and their descendants are still around whereas Christians like to believe Jesus got to 35 or whatever as a virgin!

The Harry Potter thing is insane.I am a Celtic Pagan and some people in my faith do practice magic, though I don't really, and I have been reliably informed that there's as much chance of the spells in the books working as there is of a hamster becoming next US president.

And as for saying it gets kids into the occult. So basically that means kids copy everything they see.So they watch Tom and Jerry and start hitting the cat with sledgehammers do they?

Because Harry Potter and Da Vinci Code are more entertaining works of fiction than the Bible; and Christians hate competition.

I'm a christian and I have no problem with these books, though I know people who do, gives me quite a laugh actually. I like to ask them what fairy tales they were read as a child. Really, the Wizard of Oz (good witch/bad witch).
Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (magic mirrors and potions etc.)
The Harry Potter series is great for children and is the reason a lot of kids are now reading. The books are fun and entertaining.
In a way I think these people are paranoid and read things into the books that weren't meant to be. Have you ever noticed how these people also twist the scriptures to suit their own point of view?

Harry Potter because it's about witchcraft. Their witchcraft isn't like what real Witches practice, but they had a problem with it anyhow.

Da Vinci Code had, as its central premise, the idea that the modern church is lying and Jesus fathered a child with Mary Magdalene. And some people believe that. It directly contradicts church teaching.

I'm not saying the church should get bent out of shape over these things, but that's why.

'Christians' don't have a problem with Harry Potter or the Da Vinci Code, an extremely tiny minority, of lunatic, right-wing bible nuts do. Those people think harry potter promotes satan worship and black magic, or something stupid like that.

I have a problem with the Da Vinci Code because Dan Brown tries to pass of theories, which are dubious at best as facts. I sthink Stephen Fry put it best when he described the Da Vinci Code as 'ar5e gravy'.

Christians have a problem with Harry Potter? I don't know any who do. I do know some who are uncomfortable with the DaVinci Code though. I can understand that one, as it deliberately paints a very negative image of Christianity and then portrays it as "factual". (Yes, I know it's a fictional novel, but if you've read it, the author is very deliberate in the beginning to point out that all the symbols, histories, etc are factually accurate.)

Personally, I really enjoyed both the HP books and the DC book. Very fun reading!
