I don't know about everyone else but sometimes when i'm tired I don't feel like loving thy neighbour.

Why bother making us to require sleep? What would a healthy amount of sleep be from a medical point of view? about 7-8 hours? thats a third of our day, and therefore a third of our lives wasted by sleep! What a wasteful God, think of how many of his teachings we could be following in that time!

(Please no 'the Lord works in mysterious ways', or 'why dont you ask him', or any other answers that ignore the question)

Everyone seemed to miss the point.....

So yes, God created sleep so that we can rest because, yes, we get tired. My point is that couldnt God, in all his power, not create creatures that do not get tired? or that can recharge energy without having to shut down to a sleep state of conscieciouness? Or can't he do that?

BY THE WAY.....

The question was 'why did God invent the NEED for sleep?' not 'why did God invent sleep?'

I suppose thats just a 'misinterpretation of the truth' or its been 'taken out of context' has it?

You must be extremely busy to not want to sleep. ;-)

anyway, one lesson i learned after reading the "Purpose Driven Life" is that, if you do too much and it's overwhelming, then you are not doing God's purpose anymore. God will only give you what you can handle.

Also, we are human beings with life, thus, we need to replenish ourselves not just by sleep and rest but also with food and water. We also need recreation while resting. We do not just toil or work, we also are allowed to play.

The medical view (as you indicated) of 7-8 hours of sleep is actually taught to children, to ensure better growth development, but adults can live by with 4 to 5 hours of sleep (to set your mind at ease, if you want lesser sleep).

As for my sleep, i'd rather have more sleep. ZZzzzzZZzzzzz,....

My understanding is that God also wants to relax. I can imagine the energy that he spends making our hearts beat even when we sleep. There are trillions of us all over the world. If we follow the pattern of the night, His works on healing can be done better. We can live for 40 days and nights without eating but we can not survive 11 sleepless days and nights.

Some believe that God created the universe in six days and on the seventh day, He rested. So, God only rested 1/7 of the time he had, yet you say that we rest 1/3 of our lives. We're all so lazy and ungrateful!

(Please no 'the Lord works in mysterious ways', or 'why dont you ask him', or any other answers that ignore the question) lol I find this funny, because you must think you're going to receive right or even good answer here. You're asking a question about why God did something, and last I checked it's been a while since God signed into Y! Answers. So "Here's your sign."

God allow rest instead or sleep, he knows that we are working and getting busy during the day, so he therefore make a time for rest also. There is a time for everything in your life. if you dont bother to rest then dont!!!!
if God didnt create rest, you know how many people will long for it. ever aksed yourself that question?????

in Genesis 1:23 God created evening and morning (on the 5th day). In Genesis 2:2 God finished his work he was doing and he rested on the seventh day.

God has made sleep (night) because we need to rest. and you know that lots of people would prefer to work all through that is why he has made the sleep (compulsory) is not a mater of i dont want to sleep, once night comes one will sleep whether you like it or not

He gave us human bodies, and the only time that the cells rebuild themselves in during sleep. If you deprive yourself of sleep your cells will degenerate.

God took a day of rest after the creation, but He did not need rest, he is spirit and spirits do not need rest, but it was an example to us to put one day aside to do no work so that we can fellowship with him and allow our bodies time to replenish themselves.

You may consider God wasteful, but He did not create us for ourselves.

Most doctors will agree with 6-8 hours of sleep.

God gave us night and day, and the night was given first. So we are to rest, then work and play until night when we rest again.

It all makes perfect sense to me, but not to those who like the darkness as the time to play, drink, and have sex.

I think we sleep to dream and get a break. The Creator has us sleep so that we can heal our bodies. Dreams are used to tap into the Creative Spirit and receive messeges. Sleep is doing the work of the Creator... to rest the body and mind and allow the spirit to work.

The first mention of sleep is when Adam slept as YHWH created the first woman.
Now sleep reminds us that one day we will all sleep in death until the resurection. In this way, we are blessed that we have tasted death daily, and need not fear the long sleep that will end on judgement day.

what is the basis for the assertion that God invented sleep.Life is God and sleep is also included in that, like eating, meditating, contemplating etc. All such natural activities are meant to help life, which is God.
