I agree and disagree. I don't think you should discourage your kids from celebrating you, but I think it's a great idea for them to thank the other "moms" in their life for what they do, in addition to you.

I don't see a problem with your children learning to appreciate those who care for them. I think it'll make them realize at an early age that not only Mommy cares for them. My mother and I watch a neighbor's daugther daily (she's not even related to us) but her mother is going shopping for a mother's day present for my mom from the two of them because of all the help my mom offers. I think you're teaching your children a great lesson, and perhaps your mom and grandma said that to be modest?

I'm 37 weeks pregnant and am totally appreciating what my mom went through in order to give me life. I got her a very sentimental card and plan on taking her out somewhere nice. I also have a newfound respect for my oldest sister, who has three children, and am writing her a letter about how much I admire her and hope to be like her when my son arrives.

I understand that you teaching your kid to have first priority for your mom and grand mother, but the child wants to show some affection towards you and you are hurting that tiny heart. You should have told ur child to make what ever she/he is making for all three of you (ur mom, grandmother and you).

I won't be doing anything or having anything done for me. I have 3 boys and a hubby too. Hubby doesn't get into the gift buying thing ever. He thinks its rather a waste of time and money. Oh well. If I want anything special I have to do it for myself.
