Oh, quit your bitching for crying out loud! We have the lowest taxes of any major industrialized nation on the planet. If you think we pay too much tax, move to England, France, Germany, Denmark or worse yet, Sweden!

When you consider the fact we revolted and formed this country over a 2 cent tea tax imposed by England it is sort of an overtaxed situation. However, in talking with people in other countries about taxes (I have done tax preparation for 36 years) it is apparent that we have the lowest biting tax structure on the face of the earth. We are also unique in that we can ***** up a storm and complain about everything and own guns and yadda and we are not thrown into prison or put up against the wall and shot. We are also free to leave any time we want to; instead people will sell their souls to the devil to come to this country?

What's annoying is that the same dollars are taxed multiple times.
The old saying goes "They tax it when you earn it, they tax it when you spend it, they tax it when you save it, and they tax it when you die."
This refers to income tax on wages, sales tax, income tax on interest, and estate tax.
But to answer your question... in an ideal world, we'd pay taxes to support the essential infrastructure we've all come to depend on: roads, schools, fire fighting, police, water, sewers, etc. As a society, we all agree these things are necessary and that we're willing to pay for them.

Actually, federal income taxes are low at the moment. Check the tax rates of some European countries...

How come it's not enough to eat once a month and sleep when we choose to instead of needing it daily?
We need both every day and the government must fund its operations every day!!

You can stop paying taxes as long as you never touch a sidewalk, road, or any other public land again. Also, you can't have anyone touch any public land again to benefit you. Simply stated, if you clog your toilet, you have to fix it yourself, you can't call a plumber because the plumber would have to touch public land to get to your place.
