I like grape juice and and plain seltzer water. Using the white grape juice or the purple grape juice is fun. You can even do this with apple juice. This is healthy and delicious. Pour them into your prettiest wine glasses and enjoy.

If they can't drink alcohol because they are recovering alcoholic its important that the substitute doesn't TASTE like alcohol- even if the alcohol has cooked off the taste lingers and is dangerous for them.
For red wine I've found apple cider vinegar works best.
Here is a list of substitutions for any alcohol in a recipe:

Instead of wine you can substitute chicken, beef or veggie stock, depending on the dish and your preferences. I like to buy the stock that Swanson makes in those cartons with the snap-shut spout. Then whatever is not used can be stored in the fridge for future uses.

If you cook with wine the alcohol goes away, in case you didn't know that. ;-)
