Her soul magnifies the Lord (Luke 1:46-55)! Think of what that means for just a moment.

Everything about Our Lady points straight back to the Father, Whose faithful daughter she is; to the Son, Whose mother she is; and to the Holy Ghost Who overshadowed her. There is no one in all of History whose relationship with God is as complex, fulfilled, and achingly beautiful as Mary's. She is not only the greatest of Saints, she is our Mother, as Jesus is our Brother and Savior. In honoring her, we honor Him -- and imitate Him, as we are admonished to both honor our parents and imitate Christ, Who loved His Mother. Our relationship with Mary is that of a child to a blessed Mother who was given to us as Jesus gave her to John at the Cross. She is our spiritual Mother (Revelation 12:17 -- And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ), and she wants to pray for us.

Hail, Mary, Full of Grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou amongst women, and blessed is the Fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners now, and at the hour of our death.

Mary is the Mother Of God, because Jesus her Son Is God.

Although Mary was not there in the beginning, she is God's Mother because God Entered into our universe via the Womb Of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

And yes, this Title is Biblical, it is in the Gospel according to St. Luke, chapter 1, where St. Elisabeth greets her; "Blessed art thou among women & Blessed is the Fruit of thy Womb. But, why has it come unto me that the Mother Of my **LORD** should visit me?"

The Position as Mother Of God is the Greatest Blessing He Could Ever Bestow upon any of His creatures. Since God Himself Made the Commandment "Honour thy father & thy mother," God Himself Must Abide By His Own Commandment & Honour His Beloved Mother. Thereby He Will Not Refuse the requests made by Mary, when she prays to Him on behalf of all souls.

"Mary's Divine motherhood":

495 Called in the Gospels "the mother of Jesus", Mary is acclaimed by Elizabeth, at the prompting of the Spirit and even before the birth of her son, as "the mother of my Lord". In fact, the One whom she conceived as man by the Holy Spirit, who truly became her Son according to the flesh, was none other than the Father's eternal Son, the second person of the Holy Trinity. Hence the Church confesses that Mary is truly "Mother of God" (Theotokos).

Mary is important in the Catholic religion because as the first organized and biggest church, they were competing with the pagans who worshipped both god and goddess. She filled the void for them. She is the Catholic Goddess complete with miracles and followers devoted to her and everything. She left her husband and other children behind to follow her oldest son around. There has to be something slightly disfunctional there... what a strained marriage.

There are no simple or simplistic answers to this question, but I'll take a stab at summarizing.

A) As the chosen Mother of Jesus she is the Mother of God in that she is the mother of the Person who is Jesus in His human nature and since He is also God, then we can state that she is the Mother of God.
B) She' a JEWISH mother with a JEWISH Son. And if you know anything about Jewish mothers, you know this is a lady who gets what she wants and she has a nice Jewish son who'll give her anything she asks for. It therefore makes sense to ask for her help.
C) Jesus gave her to us through John the Beloved Apostle as He hung on the Cross. "Mother, behold your son. Son, behold your Mother." And from that moment John took her into his home.
D) As she is as human as we, it therefore follows that she knows our humanity and can thus understand us in the human way. Also, as a mother, and our mother to boot (see C), we can count on her to "mother" us when we need it.
E) It just makes sense that we make nice on her. After all, God Himself made nice on her more than we ever could. He chose her to be His Mother. Follows, since He's a nice, Jewish boy (see B), it works out to, "Love Me, love my Mom!". And we don't want to be on HIS bad side. Not nohow, not noway!

Hope this helped.

+ Saints +

Catholics share the belief in the Communion of Saints with many other Christians, including the Eastern Orthodox, Anglican, Episcopal, and Methodist Churches.

The Communion of Saints is the belief where all saints are intimately related in the Body of Christ, a family. When you die and go to heaven, you do not leave this family.

Everyone in heaven or on their way to heaven are saints. You, me, my deceased grandmother, Mary the mother of Jesus, and Mother Teresa.

As part of this family, you may ask your family and friends here on earth to pray for you. Or you may also ask the Blessed Virgin Mary, Saint Andrew, or your deceased grandmother in heaven to pray for you.

Prayer to saints is communication, not worship.

+ The Blessed Virgin Mary +

"Hail, full of grace, the Lord is with you" (Luke 1:28)

"Blessed are you among women,
and blessed is the fruit of your womb" (Luke 1:42).

In Luke 1:48, Mary prophesied: "From henceforth all generations shall call me blessed."

A question for Christians who take the Bible literally: Do you call Mary "blessed"? If no, why?

The Hail Mary prayer simply recites Bible passages (the Word of God) and asks Mary to pray for us:

Hail Mary Full of grace, the Lord is with you. (These are the words the angel Gabriel said to Mary, a Bible quote.)

Blessed are thou among women and blessed is the fruit of your womb, Jesus. (This is Mary's cousin Elizabeth's greeting, another bible quote.)

Holy Mary, (The angel Gabriel said she was full of grace and Elizabeth said she was blessed.)

Mother of God, (the Bible says Mary is the mother of Jesus Christ, God the Son)

Pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death. (A simple request to pray for us.)

Amen.

+ With love in Christ.

Because she's the virgin mother of Jesus and she'll help to intercede if you pray through her.
