The silly, naive statements I see on here about the four canonical Gospels being 'eye witness accounts' is so far from reality, you'd have to be 10 and still in Sunday School to believe that nonsense.

Here......educate yourselves.

The received text of the 4 Gospels is based on a large number of manuscripts in the original language, Greek, together with a large number of ancient versions in other languages. Some of the surviving Greek manuscripts of the Gospels date from not long after the time when Jesus lived and were written within the lifetimes of those who were present.

The other "gospels" were written much later and don't have near the evidence!

First of all, the web site "Early Christian Writings" is composed by liberal gnostics, so you'd do well to completely ignore the commentary they post before each translation.

Secondly, there are no "other gospels." Even a child can see that the supposed "other gospels" conflict completely with the four we do have.

Thirdly, the testimony of the early church writers confirms these four were penned by 2 Apostles and 2 disciples.

Fourthly, a fragment of Mark was found within the Dead Sea Scrolls; see information on cave 7. The fragment has been positively dated to between 30 - 60 AD.

I could go on, but I sense you're not interested in a Christian's opinion.

Well, the 4 cannonized gospels were written within the same generation that Jesus walked on the Earth. ALL other gospels were written at least 100 years after that generation was in their graves. Gospel of Thomas is the earliest and it was written (most likely) mid 2nd century, when John (the latest gospel) was written around 80-90, and possibly as early at 70 AD. Add to that the fact that Thomas has no direct corrolation to the historical Jesus and you get why we don't even look elsewhere.

The gospel station that breaks into my Sirius (I hate that) was just talking about this on their morning show. They said there were eye witness accounts. They didn't read it in a book. They saw it themselves! They failed to mention the truth. Keep up the good work. I'm not sure they're listening, but someone has to tell them the truth.

Yeah I don't get that part either. It was all written WAY after it all happened so how can it be eye witness? I never got that.
My dad is Christian, but he doesn't believe the bible is word for word truth. Its written by man for man about god. He says if you have God in your heart you don't need a book. Its the most open minded answer I have ever gotten over the question.

It is very naive of you to suggest that only the gospels related in the Bible are read or known.
Take the time to read and learn. Maybe you don't always have to sound like you are ten.

You should follow you own advice and educate yourself about respecting someone else's opinion based on the fact that all of us have the right to believe whatever we want to. I dont believe in all those bible fairy tales, but I'm educated enough to know that it's their problem, not mine.

Don't confuse them with the facts. Hard core Christians will continue to believe what they want to despite all the evidence in the world to the contrary. They enjoy being sheep. So just let them go and have the wolves like Jimmy Swaggart, Ted Haggard, and the other oppressive evangelical fear monger preachers continue to bleed them dry of their bank accounts.

Funny you should say that. I was about ten when I started to realise how absurd the gospels really were.
