Spirituality is the next evolution of religion
A religious person may be fanatic, arrogant or ignorant, but a spiritual person sees all unverse as his own self
Religion is like a canal where water flows in fixed routes..predecided if it will reach our tap, or fields or lake
But spirituality is free flowing mountain river....finding its own ways....dancing and singing...rushing towards the Great Ocean

Religions are based on sacred texts written by many saints and religious leaders thousands of years ago
Thus the whole thing in religion cannot be accepted for people living in the contemporary world
A person strictly following the religion can be called as a relious person
But a spiritual person is not like that he only takes what he wants to attain the etrenla enlightment ie. not following blindly what the books says

Spirituality is neither the privilege of the poor nor the luxury of the rich. It is the choice of the wise man.
Spiritual unfoldment cannot take place merely because of an intellectual appreciation of the theory of perfection. Evolution takes place only when a corresponding change in the subjective life is accomplished
Religion must not be considered true because it is necessary, but necessary because it is true.
Religion is the attitude of the mind, and Spirituality is the attitude of the intellect, both flow towards the Lord.

A religous person believes in legalities and judgements. They believe that if you follow the rules and rags, they can achieve hights and glory.
A spiritual person believes in seeing beyond the physical. They focus also in the mind, soul and envirnment.
They are not hippies that do chants an d burn insence while doing drugs, but they minister and tend to the people around them.
When a freind or some one they meet is hurting, a religous person will tell them that they did wrong and where they are at blame.
A spiritaul person will hold them, and look at the the problem for solutions. Yes, they will even pray for them.

A truly religious person is a Spritual Person. A True Religious person knows the values his religion and knows the true implication of symbols, Customs and Traditions held by the religion.
They would respect all of humanity and also accept other Religion as other paths to divnity.
Only shallow fellows call themselves religious but are married to the Customs, Traditions and Symbols of the religion but had divorced the valuse of the religion.

Spiritual Person : A person who does what he/she ought to do is spiritual.
If you are a student study, if you are a house wife perform a wife's duties, If you are a father perform your duty as a father unselfishly without expecting any returns out of it that my children will take care of me in future.
Religious Person: A person who follows rules and regulations laid down in any religion.
A person who understands his/her own obligatory duties and acts on those duties meticulously for the number of roles he/she plays is a spiritual person. Obviously a person who does this is a 'thinking' person. And all the actions performed by this person are towards a higher ideal or goal, A goal becomes higher when it is more unselfish and is in the interest of larger number of people he/she relates to.
Where as purpose of all the religions is to discipline a human being, and ultimately to lead a person towards the highest ideal step by step. A person who follows these religious principles may be a thinking person who has analyzed the tenets of the religion he/she is following. Or may be this person is not a thinking type of person but more devotional kind of person who believes, these religious principles have done good to other human beings so will do good to me in my journey to evolve higher and to move towards the highest ideal.
Both Spiritual and religious persons have a common goal but different methods. Choose the one which suits you without condemning the other.
If someone follows religious principles as "end in itself" without a higher ideal, purpose or unselfish goal, then can be termed as Dogmatic because they do not know why or what they are following.
If someone who believes is practising spirituality ( the way it is spread these days by fake teachers) but is doing at the cost of their obligatory duties then is not a spiritual person.

A distinction should be made between religion and spirituality. For the purpose of this article, religion will be taken to mean beliefs characteristic of a particular people: a social and ritual structure that serves to identify that people and distinguish them from other peoples. Spirituality, in the context of this article, means ideas, truths and practices that transcend any one human grouping: wisdom, stories and truths which are found in a variety of religious cultures and which serve to unite peoples, whatever their particular religious persuasion or denomination.

Yes.
A spiritual person has a deep connection with the Deity of their choice and most of the time no specfic religion.
A religious person follows a specific religion.
Though there are religious people who are spiritual people. I think it depends on how deeply they have looked into their own religion.

Spirituality is an inner quest to know Self and God or Universe.
A spiritual person usually has daily practices of yoga, meditaion, journaling, reading sacred texts from numerous spiritual leaders from numerous faiths and cultures because they easily absorb truth from all sources, they know all faiths are rooted in Truth of Love.
Religion can be a dogmatic way of life with sets of rules rooted in fear and separation from God. A religious person can become misguided towards looking for "how to's" from outside sources instead of truth from within.

A spiritual person is one who is constantly aware of the fact of himself as a soul, and caters to his 'selfish' spiritual needs (not material). He has zero pride in him for his affiliation, and feels everybody as a soul, and not body. He does only duty to his family ,without having attachments for them, knowing the perishable nature of this material world,
A religious person on the other hand believes in community service, and has often resevations about followers of other religions. He has a feeling of pride in belonging to his religion. He mostly thinks of his worldly attachments, and spares very little for the soul.
