I am 34 years old and have suffered from depression since I was 14. My heart goes out to you. Hang in there gorgeous. You are going through the toughest years of your life but believe me, there are so many beautiful things waiting for you. My first (of about 4) suicide attempts was when I was 14, I've been to councillors, psychologists, doctors, psychiatrists, voodoo fortune tellers, .... you name it. You need to find someone that you connect with and trust or you wont be able to move forward. The pills wont substitute for support . You need to find someone who can help you to develop some coping strategies. Best wishes for a bright future.

Yes, I had a friend who was anti-depressants, who was in a mental health unit with me and she was under 18. The main reason why general doctors don't prescribe anti-depressants for under 18's is that the drugs aren't usually tested on people under that age so it is often unknown how they would work, or affect someone that young.
I'd go to A & E or your local E.R. and ask to speak to the on-call psychiatrist. Tell them exactly how you're feeling, they'll be able to help, they would need to assess you, but they would be able to give you medication if they felt you need it. From the sounds of it, I would go as soon as possible as you are at risk. Going to A & E (or the ER) bypasses the process of referral which can take several weeks and I doubt you can wait that long.

Fort of all, do not feel embarrassed about anything. Obviously you need help. I don't know what kind of Doctor you went to see, but you should find a reputable Psychiatrist who deals with anti depressant medication. It doesn't matter if you are 17 or 70. The right med.( unfortunately sometimes you have to try several before you find the right one that works for you)
will work wonders for you. Hang in! and get to see someone ASAP. Good luck

Hmm i never knew there was a law like this.i've suffered from depression and anxiety for nearly two years.maybe more.childhood is full of bad memories.i am now 23.and i am excited about the future in front of me.i've tried suicide too.but after then i tried very hard to survive and begin a new life.never be embarrassed.of course don't be proud of your suicide but never be embarrassed either.this is important.antidepressants are effective that's sure but not enough.you have to try.go to a good therapist and don't lie.of course you are not a lunatic.you are just ill mentally.it's very normal.lots of people suffer from depression and the age doesn't matter either.you should start with accepting these:you are not lunatic or else.you don't have anything to be embarrassed.never feel alone.you have us!don't lie.don't run away.fight with it.you will be fine i promise you.i wish i could come over but i can't.it won't be easy or quick as we all wish but it will be fine.you will be fine.

As Salaam to you all, Taking any drugs for a real ailment isn't Haram, regardless of if that drugs has alcohol interior it. sufficient has been pronounced approximately anti-depressants by ability of different individuals to this question besides the undeniable fact that that's as much as the guy and what the physician has prescribed that concerns. that's as much as the guy to take or not take the prescription in the event that they actually think of and have self assurance that they'd do without it, or the physician would nicely be inspired into prescribing an determination drugs. Wa Salaam

Don't feel embarrased, Depression can affect anyone at any age. From the age of 13 right through to 20 I suffered in silence. Even to this day i'm still on medication but i'm in a better place now.
Please don't feel stupid because you are not, it takes strength to ask for help.
It took me three doctors before I found someone who helped me, Don't give up because there are people who care.

Did you see a psychiatrist? Their specialty is anti-depressants. They monitor, on a regular basis, when you start taking the meds. If you don't feel better, tell the doctor. He may try another med. I take anti-depressants and have been for 11 years. This is the fourth med I used. The first three did not do the job. Hang in there.

anti depressants are not a magic bean that will instantly cure you. you more than likely need therapy along with medication. it is a good thing if you get a good therapist. but you have to be honest in order for ANY treatment to work.
some antidepressants have been proven to have negative side effects in teenagers, so you should only take them while under the supervision of a medical professional.

If I had a nickel for everytime I've been in your situation, I could affort to fly over there and talk to you personally.
First of all, be aware that many mood disorders (OCD in particular) tend to be associated with Hi IQ's . Mental disorders are the smart people's disease. I've been told that repeatedly by medical professionals.
You need to get with a Dr that specializes in mood disorders and brain chemistry. Yes, I'll say it, if possible, go directly to a therapist or Psychiatrist. They will give you more intelligent counsil than a general MD.
The embarassment you feel is a symptom of your disease and although it feels real, it is really misplaced and not appropriate. You aren't 'defective' or a raving lunitic. Once you find the correct mix to help you out of your disorder, you won't be bothered or embarassed by this at all.
In fact, those who seek medical attention for their mental health are more more mentally fit than those who don't. Who is more physically healthy, those who get check up and medical care or those who don't.
You show great maturity in your decision. If you wish to discuss this with someone anamonously, please feel free to e-mail me.
Hang in there.
