Our close family, (mom, aunts, sisters and myself) are going to be preparing all the food for for my sisters upcoming wedding reception. They did it for mine as well. Since it is goin to be a small wedding (100+ people) it works out great! My question is that I am tryin to find out some new ideas on the food arrangments (fruit, veggies, etc)! I just really need some pics to look at for some ideas, all the research I've done is just turnin up catering sights with their menus. No pics. They've(mom and aunts) hjave done these kinda things quite often since my aunt worked at a bridal shop before and she and my mom have helped with several weddings! I'm just curious about some new things to try out! I want to look like I know what I'm doin too! LOL!! Thanks any links or w/e would be welcome gratefully!!

As one of our wedding appetizers, we made fruit shish-kabobs on small skewers with a fruit dip. They disappeared fast. We used cubes or balls of watermelon, honeydew, grapes, and strawberries, if I remember correctly. You can either make your own fruit dip or find it in your grocery's produce section. We arranged the kabobs on a silver tray and had a crystal dish in the center to hold the dip. It made a really pretty display.

How about an ice bowl? (A decorative bowl made of ice that you could fill with fruit.) If you've got time and freezer space, this is a great "wow" piece for your buffet.

Take two bowls, one big and one small. Put a little water in the big one, then float the smaller bowl inside the big one. Use a few pieces of tape to hold the tops of the bowls together and put weight of some sort inside the small bowl. Freeze this layer.

Gather up some decorative things to freeze in the bowl. Flowers, citrus slices, sprigs of mint, that kind of thing. Add more water between the two bowls and then shove the decorative items down into that space (a chopstick is helpful to move the items into the right places). Freeze the whole thing - - it will take several hours or over night.

When it's completely frozen, remove the bowls and you will have a beautiful ice bowl that you could fill with berries or other fruit. Be sure to display it on a tray to catch the water as it melts (a cloth napkin or tea towel helps, too).

If you have the time, practice making the bowls ahead of time. Removing the outside and inside bowls can be a little tricky.

I've made these for several events in several shapes and sizes and they've always been a big hit. People ask - "How'd you do that?"

Congratulations to your sister and her groom. Enjoy the wedding!

You might want to consider going to Martha Stewart's site. She used to cater and her early catering books also addressed how to layer foods in attractive ways. Some of the things i do are:

1. Use great linens
2. Invert glass bowls, cake holders etc., to make "stands" for food items.
3. Cover inverted items with linens so that they match your tableclothes.
4. Use different decorative plates and platters
5. I also incorporate alot of greenery, such as lemon leaves, and fresh flowers, to add an elegant touch
6. Don't be afraid to use traditional glass with pottery and silver or pewter wares.

Enjoy!

I carve my watermelons into baskets, take out the fruit, slice and ball other fruits, and add them to my watermelon baskets along with the watermelon balls I made with the fruit from the melon. People love it. I just use my pumpkin carving tools and a template and carve away.

You might also want to try looking for web sites that deal with food presentation. You will find all kinds of resources on how to present your food beautifully and creatively.
