I am going with the GURU on this one, check out sites below
"According to some scientists, what the ancient Chinese were able to achieve in body preservation leaves the Egyptians in their dust. The body of Lady Dai of the Western Han Dynasty, housed in the state of the art Hunan Museum, attracts flocks of visitors every day. When people gaze at the body, they cannot help but wonder, how did they do it?
But from now on, people do not have to travel to China's Changsha City to pay her the visit, as the archaeology documentary film "Diva Mummy", featuring her and two other almost equally well preserved Han bodies, will debut on the US National Geographic Channel, September 6, 2004, as part of the kick-off of the National Geographic Channel's "Most Amazing Discoveries" series. I give my vote to the Egyptians, they even mummified their cats! They certainly had more practices on these skills! Chinese just had more experiences in shutting down more people / living things (the slaves, the servants, wives, horses, pets....) alive in the tombs! Egyptians also did that to those who built the tombs, I know, those Emperors were cruel in the old days!
P.S.
I really have no idea of how the ancient Han Chinese worked on it, however, the dead body was expected to be enclosed forever in the dark and would never get exposed in air. And are there any more Chinese mummies found?
Empress Dowager Cixi's tomb got broken in and certainly her stone coffin also was broken and you can image that... ! All treasures were gone except the rotten dead body! It seems her body didn't get the treatment as what Lady Dai got.
Egyptian Mummies wouldn't be damaged in the air. They just like "sun dried salty fish"...preserved well, I saw the one in British National Museum 3 times and it still looked the same... well, chocolate in colour ...dried ..not impressive.. I would say... how could the Europeans blended mummy into powder and drank it as trendy drinks in the early 1900s!!!!
Sometimes I think of mummy's arm when I use vanilla pod in cooking.
