The mother is tested during her pregnancy for std's. If she has an STD, proper precaution is taken by doctors. Therefore, the baby does not need a test unless the mother has an STD. Now, in order to get an STD, you have to extange bodily fluids, which means, you don't exactly have to have sex. For example, you have an open sore in your mouth and you give a man oral sex. Body fluids are exchanged, it is possible to get an STD.

Infants are not routinely tested for STDs at birth. The exception is if the mother is known to have them. STDs can be passed from mother to baby during the birth process.
Other wise, STDs come from direct exposure during sexual contact.

you're not tested unless you mother tests positive for an STD or she is sexually active with multiple partners without protection. If you turn up negative the only way to get an STD is from sex.

No babys are not routinely tested for std's at birth...

The mode of transmission for std's is varying... Although all are through a transfer of bodily fluids.. Vaginal secreations, anal secrations, blood.... You can contract some std's through blood transfusion (not likely within the US blood supply as the blood is routinely tested and has been since the 80's) Sexual contact is another mode of transmission...

For infants the normal modes of transmission are from the mother during the process of gestation and birth.. Or transfusion..
