A person, if already near the door on the way out or in, should open the door for the next person regardless of their gender and age.

I think it is lovely when a door is held open for me. My husband is very chivalrous and always opens or holds open a door, but you would be amazed how many people never raise a smile let alone a thank you. Is it no wonder that people are reluctant to do it much anymore. So thank you to all the chivalrous gentlemen out there, on behalf of the many miserable women that never say thank you.

Yes, but only if it's also convenient. I've known a guy who'd be walking a little behind me and then would suddenly rush past me to open the door 'because he was the guy and that was what he was supposed to do' and also I hate it when a guy with his hands full insists on opening it, struggling with the door and then half blocking it, 'cause he's carrying so much! Door etiquette should be whoever gets to the door first holds it open for those who come after, and whoever isn't carrying anything holds it for the person who has their hands full. It's soooooo much easier that way, we can be nice to each other. Etiquette should make life more pleasant, it shouldn't make life more difficult!

Yes, I don't expect it, but am happy when it happens, and always smile and thank. I don't appreciate it when men elbow me out of the way to get through the door first and let it slam in my face.

And if I see a man (or woman) encumbered with luggage, I'll open the door for them.

I believe it's a common courtesy among people, not just from men to women, but all the way around. If I arrive at the door first, I'll smile and hold it open for a man or woman who happens to be close behind me. Likewise, I'll offer a sunny smile and a thank you to any man or woman who does the same for me. Nice to know that manners aren't dead, merely lost among some!

Yes, I love it when people open doors for me, I think it's terribly charming.

I always thank people when they hold open doors. However, I don't think that it has to be a man doing the holding, I believe that the person closest to the door should hold it open for those who follow, and I'll hold the door for those with me. I do, however, think that this would be a great way to impress a girl.

I appreciate a door being opened for me whether it's by a lad or a girl. It annoys me when people don't appreciate it. If someone opens the door for you it's not because they think you can't do it for yourself they're just being courteous. I myself hold the door open for lads and girls just because it's a nice thing to do and I was raised to be polite.

A lad holding a door open for a girl is sweet and respectful.

Yes of course it,s nice for a gentleman to open a door for a lady,I know today though some don,t like it ,they just sort of grunt, but I think a real man still opens doors for women.

Yes. I think its very polite and I always say thank you. Even though I am a woman, I often hold the door for others as well.
