Unlike many of the answerers' on this question, our forefathers didn't believe dissent made you a bad American.
A quote from Thomas Jefferson: “The spirit of resistance to government is so valuable on certain occasions, that I wish it to be always kept alive. It will often be exercised when wrong, but better so than not to be exercised at all. I like a little rebellion now and then.”
If the motivations of our government weren't meant to criticized then there would have been no reason to a instill a system of checks and balances. It is our responsibility as Americans to ensure integrity in our leaders and our Constitution was written to allow for it.
That being said, "pointless and uncalled for" is being dismissive. It has a theoretical purpose. This purpose is most definitely not the one that we were told at the onset. Most people are upset not because of the war itself, as much as because we as a nation were duped and this war was sold on a lie. Educated people of all political persuasions can admit that there was never a link to Al Qaeda or September 11th (Though there is direct proof of Saudi Arabia and Iran being involved with the organization).
Saddam was a bad man and a bad leader. He slaughtered his own people. If we had honestly and openly gone into the was admitting he was not a religious extremest or an Al Qaeda operative than there would be much less room for criticism. My point is that it is not necessarily in the war itself, but in the handling of the war (i.e. when Saddam was knocked out of power the borders were left unsecured and many terroristic and extremist groups flooded in) where the folly lies.
We have profoundly fumbled this operation. We underestimated and overstated. The only question lies in whether we should cut our losses and come home or soldier on without a clear plan or destination.

What I think is uncalled for, are the people who feel they are entitled to say and do whatever they want destroying the morale of a country as great as ours.
Shameless armchair warriors who feel that they have all the answers to a war that is already happening and NOW feel that we should turn tail and run..... Weeks after 9-11 everyone in the US was ready to fight somebody... We were given Iraq. We got a fight we asked for. Now when it is time to stand up for the fight we craved, everyone wants to quit. The war is costing us money, soldiers are dying, well duh. War isn't played out on a computer.
I have watched my husband board a plane to Iraq three times so far, as I comforted our children and watched the plane leave. They understand why he is going. Why is it so difficult for everyone else?
How we have managed to become such a great country is beyond me. Our forefathers are rolling over in their graves at the cowardice displayed by so many people.
Sorry, that was longer then I expected. You wanted to hear views on the war so now you have mine. Its a real sore spot for me.

Was there a point to this war? Let's see now - Paul Wofie, Bush & Cheney's bud runs the World bank - that hands the Iraq rebuilding contracts out to Haliburton the company the Cheney headed, that is rebuilding Iraq's oil fields & cities - Gonzo, another of Bush's buddies - The US Attorney General made sure no one pushed for an investigation - while the Republican party was in control - HUMMM, there seems to be some reason for the war - Greed

We should not have gone in. Hussein wasn't a good guy, but he kept the country together and wasn't planning to harm us, and hadn't harmed us. Our reaction to 9/11 was wrong; the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor, and we bombed Canada.
It's not doing anything. Iraq was never a country in the first place, and we can't unite something that doesn't exist.
We need to get out. They want us to leave. Whatever good we're doing is cancelled out by our aggravating the situation by staying.
To train their military, we need to take volunteers from Iraq, ship them over here, train them in Nevada and Arizona, and then send them back trained, equipped, and alive.
If we have any allies left, we need to go the UN and beg for help.
I feel less safe from terrorism now that we went in to Iraq. We just gave a lot of angry people a damn good reason to hate us.

Millions think precisely those very same thoughts and they're constantly ignored by gwb! But the voters aren't ignoring their opponents when the election comes around! When the republicans sided with george for the veto vote they signed their own removal next time!

I believe the US is attempting to support the country in the manner they've asked us to.
It's also my belief that if we weren't in Iraq defending our freedoms, the terrorists would be in the US taking our freedoms away!
I think they proved that point on 9/11!
