Yeah it is normal - type 2 diabetes is degenerative so even if you've been on tablets for a while n eating low sugar n getting exercise you might eventually need insulin cos tablets don't work well enough any more. Not sure what you mean would be low? but insulin is nothing to worry about, I've been on it since a kid cos I have type 1 diabetes - insulin needles are the thinnest needles you can get so not sore at all n though it seems a lot to remember at first the person who you're asking about will get used to it really quickly n will prob feel so much better for it they won't look back! Tell her good luck from me! xxx

My mother has type 2 diabetes and she takes an insulin injection twice a day because her blood sugar is not stable. It can vary from being very high to very low, but never normal. Diet alone did not help, so her doctor put her on insulin injections as well as some tablets. These has to be taken for life.

Most type II diabetics can initially be managed with oral agents only, but many of these will eventually progress to a point where insulin is needed, and some people start out that way.

My father is Type II, and he is on insulin simply because he didn't take care of himself, and refused to eat properly. It became more than the medication could handle. Even on insulin, he is 5' 9", weighs 480 pounds, and eats whatever he wants.

It is normal. There are different types of insulin. I take one injection in the evening of Humulin R 100, and continue a pill regimen also.
