And he has been having his nebulizer breathing treatments for about every 30 minutes or so...he woke me up 3 time last night just to have another breathing treatment, and they were all around the same time......if there is a nurse or anyone who can help me please answer. My father says there is nothing we can do, but I think he should go to the hospital. He is okay for now as long as he has his treatments but, he says this is the worst it has ever been, should he go to the doctor now? Is there something that can be done, or does it just come since he has Congestive Heart Failure?

Since your father is suffering from CCF, here are the basic symptoms :
1) history of heart disease.
2) fluid in legs/or other parts of body.
3)shortness of breath.
Your father has fluid in the Lungs, and during sleep it is intensive.
Neubliser won't help.
My sincere recommendation is that you take him to a good hospital under care of good cardiologist and now .
This short and sweet answer.

I have heart failure. Since 1996. He needs to get to a doctor now. What happens when a person goes into Congestive Heart failure, is just that, fluid builds up around the heart because the body is trying to protect itself due to the fact that the heart is not pumping as efficiently as possible. Heart failure is caused by many things, however it sounds like your paw paw has gone into congestive heart failure, which just means his body is holding on to more fluid than it needs. I could go into details and be technical after 11 years of dealing with it myself, but that takes up too much space. To make it simple, he's drowning from the inside, that's the easiest way to put it. I know how that feels way too often. The nebulizer treatments will not help. He needs to get to the hospital so they can give him some stronger diuretics to help get that fluid off so he can breathe easier and his heart doesn't have to work so hard. Just get him to ER.

Just as side note, in a roundabout way his body is actually protecting him it just didn't get the message that things were alright and to stop. It's like someone who has an autoimmune disorder. Their body's mechanisms for protection end up hurting the person instead. Same thing with the heart. the body is designed to protect you in a crisis, it's just that in some cases the 'off switch' is corrupted somehow and doesn't stop being in crisis mode.

I agree with the doctor who recommended taking your Paw Paw to the hospital ASAP. There is a whole lot that can be done for congestive heart failure, and you are being a wonderfully concerned relative by following up to find the right care. Although breathing treatments might provide short-term relief, they can also exacerbate the heart problem. There are better ways to clear the lungs.

I'll also point you to a few resources for further reading that I think you will find helpful.

Your Paw Paw is using his nebulizer treatments too often, which is not good for the heart. Using the nebulizers as often as he is, is an indicator that he needs more intervention. With congestion heart failure, the heart has to work to hard and the kidneys can not eliminate the fluid/water fast enough causing his lungs to fill up with fluid. You can say, he's suffocating in his own body fluid. He should go to emergency so that he can be diuresed. They will start an IV and give him this medication in the IV name Furosemide(lasix) and this will help him to get rid of alll the extra fluid, by urinating, and the mediation help him to breath better getting rid of all of the extra fluid.

Breathing treatment are not the treatment for congestive failure. Getting rid of excess fluids and digitalization is called for. Get a cardiologist.

CHF is not excessive fluid around the heart. It's were the heart muscle is weak and can not pump effciently causing a back up in the lungs. Neb treatments WILL NOT fix this, neb treatments fix the airways, not the vascular system in the lungs.. He needs lasix to help his body remove some fluid so his heart wont have to pump it around the body. If you havent by now, I would call 911, this is serious!

As you know, congestive heart failure involves excessive fluid around the heart that backs up into the lungs. The more advanced this becomes, the harder it is for the sufferer to breathe. Talk to his doc---they need to know.

If he is having increased difficulty breathing, then he should be seen. They can possibly change or even adds some meds to help his breathing, he shouldn't have to suffer through that!
