My dad has a heart condition where his heart literally stops. My cousin does also (his oldest brother's daughter). He's been through many tests, but no medication. I've noticed before, but last night I put my fingers to my neck and I could count to four (slow one-one thousand, two one thousand) before it would start beating again. It does this about every 5th beat. I have severe headaches, and my eye doctor told me once when I complained of a "curtain" going down over my eyes making things black, that I might have problems with my blood flow. My fingers and toes are always cold, and sometimes my finger nails are purple.
So my question is, what is it, could it be the cause of my headaches, and could it be hereditary?

its possible it could be something such as a heart rythm disorder like arythmia, dependsing on what type of arythmia it could be serious or nothing
abnormal heartbeats can be caused by excessive caffeine use or hypokalemia which is low levels of potassium, both of those are easy to fix
it could aslo be hyperthyroidism, which means your tyhroid makes too much thyroid hormone that causes irregular heartbeat and is usually genetic, so if thats what your father and cousin has chances are you hava an overactive thyroid also
an irregular heartbeat can be cause by generalized anxiety disorder a feeling of prolonged anxiety along with physical symtoms
it could also be atrial fibrilation which cause the heart to quiver thus miss a beat
these are just possible conditions. than again it could be nothing
research these and see which one sounds most simmilar to your condition
if you are concerned goo see a cardiologist and get a echocardiogram and they will figure out if there is a problem what it is

If you really are missing every 5th heart beat, then you need to see your MD for follow up.
You should not be having purple nail beds, so go see your doctor for a 24 hour holter monitor.

Any one of these things could be normal, but the combination of this (especially including your father and cousin's heart trouble) means that you need to see a doctor.

Purple fingernails are the one sign that really concerns me. If possible, go directly to your dad's cardiologist - I assume that he has one. If not, go to an internist or other 'general doctor' to confirm whether you need to worry.

Yes, inadequeate circulation through the bloodstream. I would highly suggest seeking further medical attention it could something severe or it could be something minor. Hereditary could have something do with it.
