What fun!

For my son's birthday a few year's ago, we set up a Quidditch game in the back yard. I had seen it described in Family Fun Magazine. We made goals out of hula hoops and the kids "rode" flying brooms made of swimming pool noodles while trying to throw a beach ball through the hoops. The bludger was a nerf ball and the snitch was a golf ball painted gold and hidden on the field. The kids had a great time with that game, and it was pretty easy to put together. You can probably still find the instructions on the Family Fun website.

You could ask some grown ups to dress up like different characters from the books.

Ooo! You could rent a projector and show the movies on the wall or outside on the side of the house (if the party's at night).

You could have the kids decorate sticks - "make your own wand".

I saw a display at the book store called "Severius Snape. Friend or foe?" If the kids have read the books in the series, they might have fun talking about that. What do they think?

Scholastic publishes the Harry Potter series. You may want to go to their website -- I bet they've got some ideas!

Good luck with your party. Great idea! I think we might want to have one, too!

There're even specially made party supplies for these parties: http://www.reasontoparty.com/harry_potter%20party.htm
You can find tons more on the web if you just google 'harry potter theme party'.

English kids like meat and potatoes. You should make lots of sausage rolls which are appetizer size bits of country sausage wrapped in pastry. You can just use Bob Evans bulk sausage and pillsbury dough. How about Turkish Delight, if you can find it. Its a jelly candy coated with powdered sugar. Trifle is a dessert of pound cake layered with fruit and pudding in a large clear glass bowl topped with whipped cream. It would go a long way, is pretty and simple to make. Triangular white bread sandwiches filled with canned corned beef, mayo, & lettuce with crusts cut off. Peanut butter & fluffernutter done the same way and serve crisps(potato chips.) Use cake stands to display the sandwiches.
