I am always reluctant to answer questions of this type but the answers so far are no better than the question itself. I do not use the term 'mild stroke'. A person either has had a stroke or they have not. Unfortunately - many physicians use the term 'mild stroke' when there was in fact no permanent damage. A person may have chest pain but not a heart attack just as a person may have neurologic symptoms without suffering a stroke. There is no question that cigarette smoking contributes to the risk of both stroke and heart attack. In fact - cigarette smoking is the #1 cause of illness, lost time from work, disability and death in the United States. Approximately 500,000 people die from cigarettes yearly in the US. To put this in perspective - approximately 500,000 US soldiers died in all of the armed combats in the 20th century combined. Thus - there are few health interventions more powerful than smoking cessation. Bravo. I assume that you know that smoking 'weed' is not healthy. The issue is not that the THC in a single joint is going to affect you much differently than a bottle of beer. The issues are that smoking any substance leads to lung damage and that weed is commonly 'laced' with much more dangerous drugs. Few people smoke enough joints per day to lead to the type of lung damage that occurs with cigarettes but other lung damage may occur. My major concern when counseling patients is that the drugs your weed may be laced with may lead to more serious addiction, heart attack, stroke and sudden death. Until THC is FDA approved for general use so that its 'purity' and lack of contanimation is controlled I would avoid it 'mild stroke' or not.

If you type "Marijuana lung cancer" into google you will find many links to a study by the federal government that...
drum rolll
found no link whatsoever between marijuana smoke and lung cancer
here's one example: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/05/25/AR2006052501729_pf.html
HOWEVER
if you type "Marijuana Stroke" into google you will find a mix of reports, some asserting that marijuana prevents against stroke damage, and some saying marijuana can cause strokes. There isn't the kind of conclusive study that was done for lung cancer, but the results are mixed.
Frankly, I'd bring it up with your doctor and get their opinion on it. Marijuana contains a lot of cannibiniod compounds, many of which interact tightly with the cells in our mind (there is a cannibinoid receptor site). People should not dismiss it out of hand as a drug that can only get you "high" - there are very legitimate uses for it in medicine. The most obvious of which is to help aids patients with their appitite! But there are many others such as Migraines.
With respect to Strokes - do the google search I mentioned and then speak with your doctor, or one who's mind is more open. But base your decision on the best evidence available.

well...although smoking the weed may help keep someone mellow, i doubt further damage to the brain, and it's cells would be such a great idea. so no i don't think you should continue to smoke weed, or anything else for that matter. i should think anyone who has suffered a stroke would want to try to take better care of themselves because if they didn't then the next one could be much worse, and may even kill them...

Absolutely NOT! Marijuana is a vaso-constrictor. It will cause a rise in your blood pressure and cause more sever stroke than you've already suffered, hence the classic red eyes. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news....but if you enjoy living you may want to find other things to do than substances with alter your reality. Be safe!

Pot suppresses your system, makes it work slower. You need to tell your doctor that you smoke marijuana. They can't, by law, get you into trouble. They want to help you. Being honest with them is the only way to ensure your health and safety. They won't judge you for smoking pot, they've seen it ALL!
