In the UK, definately anyone aged 16 or over has a right to keep their medical info private. I have a feeling that if the child is over 12, then the doctor must get permission from them, and seeing as nearly all sexually active people are above 12, then I think permission must be sought.

Depends on where you live. Look up the Doctor-Patient Confidentiality Laws.
The Confidentiality is not Absolute! Doctors can report people who are a danger to themselves or others. There are also laws that have been passed that require a doctor to report certain diseases to the CDC. In some places being positive for HIV requires notification of authorities as well.

Are you under 18?
Technically, no doctor who truly respects his work will tell your parents this if you don't want them to do so. However, if you are under 18, they CAN and there will be no legal consequence to them.
Gynecologists can only tell if you are sexually active if you tell them, or if you have had sex in approx. the last 24 hours. There is no way to tell just by looking, unless the sex was VERY recent, because a hymen can be broken by so many things. However, I recommend telling them the truth so that you can get all the necessary things done that go with that.

If you are a minor then yes they can tell them, but 99% of them wont if you dont want them to. The only reason they would probably tell your parents would be if you had an STD or something and needed treatment then one of your parents would have to know. Or if you wanted to go on birth control then yes they would probably tell them too. But if you want to go on birth control you could always just go to a family planning clinic, its cheaper and they dont notify your parents.
