Hi, I have herpes and I use the acyclovir tablets and they work great and they are very cheap. I don't use them on a daily basis because I dont have outbreaks monthly or anything like that but, when I do and I take acyclovir it goes away really fast. The last time I had an outbreak was in June 2006, every since I've been free of outbreaks...Good luck!!

There are a few different medications that can be used to treat genital herpes outbreaks including: acyclovir (Zovirax), famciclovir (Famvir), and valacyclovir (Valtrex). They can be taken daily or when a person is having an outbreak or "feels" an outbreak coming.
I have personally tried acyclovir tablets, acyclovir ointment and famciclovir before and they all worked really well. I'd have to say acyclovir helps me the most (and not to mention is the cheapest). I haven't had an outbreak in over 2 years.

I have had herpes for eight years now (since I was 16) and as I get older I am having fewer outbreaks, I hear that's norml so eventually you won't need to be taking anything. I have taken acyclovir, the vitamin l-lysine, and valtrex. acyclovir Valtrex is the best #1 thing you can take. It really worked for me and everyone else I have spoken to.

There are really only a few medications that are indicated to reduce the number of outbreaks you have each year. You can take acyclovir or valtrex or famvir daily under the direction of your doctor to try to reduce your outbreaks.
