My parents have a picnic basket that used to be my great-grandmother's. It has no compartments, no special dinnerware or anything inside, it's just a big woven box, basically. It's now falling apart, and I want to get them something similar, but I can't find it anywhere! Everytime I search for "Picnic basket" it comes back with sets that include plates, cups, etc. and come in a smaller basket than I am looking for.

What you need to search on is PICNIC HAMPER, not Picnic basket. Try bed bath & beyond, or another of the Housewares type megamarts.
Also, Ben Franklin or Franks' Arts & Crafts stores could have what you're looking for
Finally, try outlet stores like TJMaxx or Steinmart. Sometimes they have interesting baskets with lids that would be great picnic baskets.

Katie, I searched for one of these for years and finally found them in a few different places. A craft store named Michaels and Pier One Imports has nice ones. They are plain baskets like the one Toto from the Wizard of Oz rode in on Dorothys bike.ha.ha. that's the best description I have of it. Its a plain sturdy woven basket and the top of each side of the handle opens up .The handle of course is in the middle.Hopefully you will be able to locate one of these stores near you or on line.Good Luck.

Great! Now, every time I go to a garage sale, I'm going to want to buy one for you!! LOL
The search is worth the end result, so, look at yard sales, flea markets, antique shops... and enjoy the process.
When looking online, you might want to try to look for just a large lidded basket... and... see if your parents really don't like the compartments. They may want them after all.
Good luck and enjoy the hunt!

Antique stores seem to have a lot of picnic baskets. I see them all the time when I am shopping.

I would try places like Marshalls, TJ Maxx, Bed Bath & Beyond or Linen's N Things. Perhaps Macys?

I suggest ebay or an antique store... maybe a flea market too, if there is one in your area
Here is a link to a possible option on ebay for you

I have seen these at the chain craft stores: Michaels, JoAnn Fabrics and JC Moore (I think that's what it's called.)
