I only eat fish, no poultry or meat.

I stopped eating that stuff 4 months ago because of several reasons.

1. I consider meats to be unhealthy, because of the way it is produced nowadays. The animals don't get to range and they are force fed chemically enhanced stuff full of growth hormones etc.

2. Environmental reasons. The world's meat production is more damaging to the environment than all the cars on earth. A report from the UN stated this a few months ago. Read up on it and it will explain the details fully - too much to do here.

3. I like animals. All types of animals, big and small. The thought of having them bred, cramped into little stalls or cages just to be slaughtered is kind of offensive to me.

4. Albert Einstein supported Vegetarianism. He was one of the smartest people of modern history, so that speaks volumes.

5. I have found that meatless dishes are very good. I don't miss meat at all now. I still eat seafood though. Veggie burgers are so good. Morning Star makes the absolute best ones...

There are plenty of reasons not to eat meat.
-Health reasons... people can live healthy long lives on a vegetarian diet. And meat isn't all that great for you.
(Plus some people are allergic to it)
-ethical reasons... you should watch some factory farm animal videos. I'm sorry but anyone with a heart would be horrified when they saw the torture that farm animals are subjected to. That stuff makes me sick to watch.
- Religious reasons... I'm not religious, but some religions exclude all or only certain meats.
- Some people just don't like meat.
- Also ecological reasons.

Yes fish, shellfish and birds are meat. Vegetarians don't eat meat... so, the real ones, don't eat fish and birds... anyone that tells you any different is extremely mistaken.

(adapted from a different question, but still relevant. It reads a little robotically, but I had to be terse to fit all the content in.)

Equality does not mean equal value. That would be silly, as even humans have varying levels of potential and ability. The smartest man in the world's wants and needs do not have precedence over those of the masses. Equality means equal consideration of interests. In order to have interests, one must be able to suffer. Happiness is nothing more than the absence of suffering; the fufilment of needs.. Every sensate being is interested in not suffering. Pain is processed in the most primitive areas of the brain, so the sensation is the same, if not more acute, in lesser-developed beings.

Killing, however,is a different matter entirely. Killing should be judged on the amount of net suffering caused or alleviated. If you kill a human, for instance, you must account for the human's awareness of the fact and the subsequent discomfort caused by cognisance of this, the grief of those close to our hypothetical subject, the loss of potential good that human could do, the prevention of further suffering (euthanasia), and myriad other factors. It truly needs to be evaluated on a case by case basis.

The fact of the matter is, animals and animal derived products can not be raised for human consumption on any scale without causing suffering. It is inherent. Even on the most local setting, you are upsetting herd dynamics, stealing nutrition from infants, and depriving the animal of natural behavior. In actuality this is much worse. All of this happens for the most unjustifiable reason possible, our taste buds, especially when ethical, varied, and tasty alternatives exists. Imagine the diversity of vegan foods there would be if humans put our resources behind cruelty-free cuisine!

People will sometimes say that if everyone was vegan, then there would not be any (domesticated) cows or chickens. This situation is doubtful, but if this was indeed the outcome we should not lament it. It would be analogous to grieving over spilt semen (some indeed go this far); It is not life itself that is enjoyable, the experience is what makes it wonderful. I am not happy that I am alive in the most fundamental sense, I am happy that I am able to look at the sunrise, share a meal with my family, listen to music, etc. Vegans do not save animals, we prevent lives of suffering.

I don't eat any meat, or even dairy or eggs. I don't eat meat for a number of reasons. One being my health. Meat is pumped so full of additives, hormones (even when they tell you there are none, they are still allowed a certain percentage to be added to chicken and cow feed without having to disclose it to the public), and diseases. I no longer worry about mad cow disease, salmonella, or other common animal diseases. I no longer get colds, or the flu, either. The other reason is for the animals. If you've ever been to a farm, you'll see that the animals each have their own personality. The cows will come up and lick you like a puppy, and chickens follow you wherever you go. It's not my place in this world to kill another living creature.

I consider anything with a face or a mother meat.
I can only tell you why I don't eat meat. I am not going to say that it is wrong...it happens to be my personal preference.
I don't eat it b/c the meat industry is extremely cruel to the animals. Pigs, chickens, cows, sheep, etc. The list goes on. The abuse is beyond anything I could have imagined and it truly breaks my heart.
I have researched vegetarianism and its effects on health. I have a lot of major health problems that run on both sides of my family - mainly due to poor diet and whathaveyou. I found that I stand a better chance of making it past my 65th birthday if I eliminate meat all together.
I also believe that humans are just not anotomically made to eat meat. Given our digestive tracts, our teeth, saliva, and intestines....it just doesn't seem like we should be partaking.
So, those are my reasons in a nutshell. Again, it's my personal preference and I am not saying that everyone should stop eating meat. (though it would be nice!) LOL

I personally do not have anything against people who eat meat. I only eat poultry and fish. Mainly to try to maintain a healthy diet, But I admit I do find beef to be rather repulsive- to me it just looks "bloody". I would never eat duck either, but that is because I have a special affection for them from feeding a group of ducks at my grandmother's home all the time when I was a child.

I don't eat meat because I think it's wrong to kill an inoccent animal just for my consumption.
I think fish shellfish and birds are meat because they were once living creatures and they died just because some people are selfish and will gladly eat meat, only for taste, even if by eating it, they're murdering a poor, beautiful being.
This is what convinced me to be a vegan...I would be one if my dad let me anyways...

Meat is expensive. They feed grains and such to the animals (even to beef cattle who would rather eat grass) then chop up the animals and sell them -- not exactly an economically efficient process. I say, why not eliminate the middleman and just eat the food yourself, instead of having animals pre-digest your food for you? You might save $10 a day, which over a lifetime (with interest) is easily over a million dollars.

As a human, I'm not designed for it, and don't need it. Sure, I don't need to eat cake, but I do because I like it, but my cake doesn't have any direct consequences on other living creatures etc. I don't drink beer either, because it tastes like crap and the consequences are on me rather than on some animal somewhere. I avoid other things simple because of the consequences on the environment or the local economy etc. I try to look at the bigger picture. I'm not perfect and I cannot see all the complicated connections in the world, but I try.

PEOPLE YOU ARE OUT OF YOUR MIND. Here is an extract from Man vs. Beast by Robert Muchamore -
" 'Have you ever seen inside a chicken farm?'
Lauren shook her head.
'The birds are stacked on mesh cages, eight or ten levels high, with ten or twelve birds crammed on each tiny cage.Chickens get get extrmely frustrated being hiddled together like that, so the farmers cut theri beaks off as soon as they're born to stop pecking each other.
'Unfortunately, the beak isnt dead tussie like a horses hoof, it contains thousands of nerve endings and it feels about as painful as having your nose chopped off without being given any anaesthetic.
'After six weeks crammed inside mesh cages, without ever standing on a blade of grass, or seeing a glimmer of sunlight, the birds are ready for slaughter. This whole time they've been crapping through the mesh down onto the birds below them. Right at the bottom, the sticky white chicken sh** is do deep that some of the birds' feet are torn out of their sockets as they're pulled out of it to ride to the slaughterhouse.
'Once they arrive, the chickens are hooked upside down on to a conveyor belt. A rotating blade is supposed to slit the chicken's throat. But chickens have a tendancy to wriggle and the knife misses every seventh ro eighth bird. Now, you might think that not getting your throat cut is a lucky break, but it's not. Because all the dangling bloody chickens keep rolling along until they're lowered down into a tank of boiling water to loosen off their feathers. And instead of having its throat cut, the poor bird gets boiled alive.'
Ryan pushed Tasty Chicken crisps back across the table to Lauren. 'Tuck in,' he grinned."
