Types of Operation
There are many types of cardiac operation. We have placed these in three categories; coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG), aortic valve replacement (AVR) and other. All CABG operations are included in the CABG category except those that are part of a more complex operation, such as a heart valve replacement, or are repeat operations in someone who has previously had a cardiac operation. All AVR operations are included in the AVR category except those that are part of a more complex operation, such as replacement of a second heart valve, or are repeat operations in someone who has previously had a cardiac operation. These more complex operations are included in the other category. Other operations include:

- Surgery on the mitral and/or tricuspid valves.
- Valve surgery associated with CABG.
- CABG in patients who have had a previous cardiac operation.
- CABG associated with cardiac aneurysm repair.
- Closure of holes in the heart.
- Removal of tumours from the heart.
- Operations to correct congenital abnormalities of the heart in adults.
- Operations on the thoracic aorta.
There are so many others, e.g Norwood operation in congenital disease of Left Ventricle.
Prosthetic operation: e.g Aortic Valvular disease, PPM etc.
