Type 2 diabetes, adult onset can be controlled with diet and weight control. I have known people who no longer needed to take insulin shots after they controlled their weight and diet... although they did need to check their blood sugars regularly for life.
Type 1 diabetes, or juvenile diabetes (onset is in childhood) is not so easy to control. If you have type1 diabetes, you will most likely have it for life.

what kind of diabetes?
there are three basic types.
Type 1 is genetically hereditary, and cannot ever be cured. it is treated with several shots of a hormone called insulin everyday.
Type 2 is generally triggered by poor eating habits or obesity, and is treated with daily pills. It can, on some occasions, be cured, however, it can also escalate to irreversible type 1.
Juvenile Diabetes is diabetes found in those generally under the age of 17-20, and once they reach this age, disappears.

A local doctor has a goal to find a cure for diabetes and the Federal Drug Administration thinks one Corpus Christi doctor, Dr. Donald Rhodes, may have just hit on something big. In fact, the government may fund a two million dollar study by the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio that could verify it.
Check out this video from our news station. A believe a cure is very near. I'm getting my husband into this study.
Also I know a couple of people who no longer take insulin, they were healed.

Although there are people and books out there that claim they can cure it, there isn't a cure as far as I know. I was going to take a look at a few books that claim this myself to see how much they will help me control my diabetes. That is the trick to it. They teach you to control your diabetes, but you have to continue treating it, so it is not a cure. My blood sugar was 400 yesterday, I almost ended up in the emergency room, so the need to control it through diet and exercises and my meds has become abundantly clear.

Yes, people with diabetes can lose weight, but it is not easy, especially if you are a women. Usually your weight will go up and down. Watch what you eat and stay away from bread, grits and white potatoes. Eat small portions of foods, at least six meals a day. Oh and if you take insulin it is even harder because the insulin will somehow put a little weight on you.
