I need to plan a shower from a 21 year old who's balking at traditional shower games, etc. She's mentioned having a "goddess party" but I have no idea how to plan such a thing or if it's really appropriate. Any ideas?

Oops! Bridal shower. (Her family lives abroad, so there won't be any older folk to scandalize.)

There are many resources on the web, just by typing in "goddess party" on a search engine will give you tons of info.

Go for a Roman Bacchanalia

OK Hire a bunch of hunky Frat boys who need to earn money to act as slaves.

Big bunches of grapes - hand fed of course - along with other fresh fruit on big metal or metallic platters
Pillows on the floor to lounge on - with big slaves to fan with palm fronds (from the florist supply)

Lots of Chianti or sangria

Rustic Breads and chunks of different cheeses - Edam, Gouda etc.

The only rule is don't touch the slaves. Guests can exchange phone numbers with the slaves but that's strictly after hours - not on your watch.

I don't know if there is any "traditions" around goddess parties......but goddesses are all about empowerment and being your strong, true, best self......how about having fun with the food? Perhaps serve 'angel' food cake and 'devils' food cake ......serve "bloody mary's". You could ask the guests to write something about the young woman, showing her best traits, how she influenced them, etc.....and then put into a scrapbook for her with pictures of the guests. Good luck.

Get more ideas from her. She is that specific, she must have seen something that could help you out. For instance, is everyone suppose to dress like a goddess or just her. Sounds like you could throw a Greek theme. I wouldn't know where to get the costumes. You also could start with Greek themed movies to get ideas.
