since tuesday i have been breathing through my mouth. I feel as though i cannot breath properly if i try to breath through my nose. i have also been sneezing and have a runny nose , i went to the doctors and he told me i had allergies. He gave me an antibiotic and a nasal spray and told me to use claritin. I feel as though i am thinking too much about my breathing and thats why i feel like this. I feel like i have to put effort in to breath. I talked to my doc about it and he said that it is part of the allergies and once my nose clears up i will be able to breath better. i suffer from anxiety and i am freaking out , i feel as if something is stuck somewhere and thats why i am breathing through my mouth and not my nose. Has anyone else experienced anything like this? Please help , im freaking out

I can sympathize, Sofia. I had much the same problem when I was down with bronchitis.

I do wonder why the doctor gave you an antibiotic for allergies: An allergy isn't a disease as such, though it is quite possible to have allergies and some other illness at the same time.

Try using steam: That should help unstop your nose at least, though it won't stop it from running.

Ask your doctor questions, until you are sure you understand what is wrong and what he's trying to do. If he can't or won't give satisfactory answers, see a different doctor.

Good luck.

calm down, i have this too, i would be on the train with my mp3 player on, then all of a sudden i would think of how im breathing, then my breathing would start going weird and i would feel like im shortless of breath etc. I have this everyday, i dont know why, maybe coz i cant hear myself breathe (when i have music on) i think im breathing loudly and other people can hear me, thats when i would start thinking about how im breathing.

just take a few deep breaths in nose out mouth. (or if you have a blocked nose just takes deep breaths through your mouth) I have hayfever too. i use tabs nose spray and the eye drops. dont worry! :o)

Try and relax!!

I feel your pain mine are really bad right now. I usually just take benadryl, or it its really bad I take a cold and cough medicine with expectorant in it and that usually cleans me out. What your doctor gave you will work better than over the counter stuff. When ever this feeling becomes to much just close your eyes tilt your head back and take a breath in to the count of 4 and exhale to the count of four. That should help you. I hope you feel better.
