That really depends on which region of the country you are in. In the southern US dinner is the mid day meal and supper is the evening meal. Luncheon is something that ladies put together for their garden clubs and usually consists of cucumber sandwiches and finger foods.

Some guy by the name of Will wrote about how his friend and him have decided to call the meal in between lunch and dinner "LUNDIN".
LUN- because it is after lunch
DIN- because it is before dinner.
so i'm just gonna go with them on this one.

If you are calling it a meal then it should be considered supper...dinner is later on in the evening.... hence, to dine

Afternoon tea. Small sandwiches with a variety of watercress, chicken, pate, tuna, roast beef or cheese. Petit fours for dessert and a lovely freshly brewed cup of Earl Grey with lemon. Yummmm!!!!!!!!!!!!!

an "aperitif"or appetizer .... before dinner you go out for a drink with your colleagues and have some finger food and a drink. In Spain they are called "tapas", in Venice (Italy) "cichetti" for example.
