I tested positive for HSV2 and mononucleosis a few years ago - based on a blood test - soon after I received the chicken pox vaccination. However, I have never had any symptoms associated with either. Since they are all different strains of the Herpes virus, is it possible the vaccination caused a false positive?

Thanks for the answers; however, I am looking for documented evidence more than opinions. Does anyone have any resources to support?

"Mono" is caused by the Epstein Barr virus, which is one of the 8 herpeviruses. Humans are carriers are of EBV, however, not all carriers develop diseases caused by this virus. Though MOST humans have no symptoms, HSV I and II can also be carried. Both strains, when active, can affect any area of the body (but primarily affects the mucous membranes).

False positives are rare. If you have any strain of the virus, don't worry yourself to death over it. If you can afford it, Valtrex is an excellent method of treatment. In fact, it suppresses outbreaks in most cases. Get educated about it and learn how to manage your condition. You'll soon realize that nearly everyone suffers from this (in one way or another...Chicken Pox, cold sores, mono, etc.).

Yes. Very possible. Chicken Pox is a documented cause of false positive test results.

Herpes is no big deal but in your case I doubt you even have the virus.

Herpes is almost the rule not the exception but many people don't ever get an outbreak just as in the case of Cold Sores. Both attack when you are stressed or in very poor health.

Don't sweat it in either case.

The blood test for herpes is not reliable at all. Do not worry about it unless you actually get symptoms of herpes.
