About 1 month ago, I got this cough along with a cold. I was put on a z-pack and a week later amoxocillin. Nothing has worked. The doctors say my chest sounds clear and my oximeter rate is 97-98. I would like a chest x-ray, but I am 20 weeks pregnant. What should I do? F.Y.I., I am 25, and I quit smoking almost 7 years ago. I am scared it could be cancer!

It could be many things besides cancer. It could be including but not limited to Bronchitis, COPD, asthma. There are many reasons that you could have a persistent cough. Being that you are 20 weeks I would just wait all other testing is fine. They can also do blood testing with cancer and see if things are imbalanced. Being that you did smoke you did cause damage to your lungs it depends on how much you smoked and how long you smoked to know the idea of damage you have done. Enjoy your pregnancy and relax and if it really comes down to it you can get an xray later in pregnancy

If your doctor isn't worried, then you shouldn't worry either. Try this for a great cough med for a pregnant mom. You can't overdose on it and its yummy and works too. A tablespoon of honey followed by a cup of hot lemon water. It will soothe that cough. If your chest is clear then it is probably a throat tickle or a non productive cough caused by post nasal drip perhaps. Try the honey n hot lemon water.

Probably not. You have an ongoing cold or sinus infection. I had the same thing and it lasted about 6 weeks. Depending on what your Dr. says, you may need a nasal spray or some kind of decongestant. I would check first before taking anything.

xrays are harmful to the fetus. But, they have special aprons now for this procedure. You should speak frankly with your physician and share your concerns. Have them do a blood test that checks your blood for any cancer markers.

As well...It could be a bronchial infection, or irratant you have come into contact with. For your unborn babies sake get it taken care of now. You are breathing for two lives now and fresh oxygen is what your baby needs.

I wish you the best and I pray for you and your baby.

Most of respiratory diseases if not all, manifest with a cough. It could be tuberculosis but if the cough persisted for 2 months, it is most probably that you're suffering fom bronchitis.
