I was wondering...since sushi is made with white rice, and white rice is not very good for you, I was wondering what you would think about making sushi with brown rice? Would that be weird? Ever heard of that? I'm a new fan of sushi and don't really know all that much about it.
Thanks

You could do what I do, mix brown and white rice together, and cook it. The taste is not effected as much, or the stickness. But I'll advice that you soak the brown rice in water for a few hours before cooking, otherwise the brown rice would be a little raw, since the difference in amount of water brown and white rice absorb. I love making maki with a brown and white rice mixture.

Well, I've been eating sushi since before I could talk, and I will say: not only would that be "weird", but the main reason why white rice is used is because it just sticks better! I've tried using other types of rice to make sushi, although not brown rice, and it never worked quite right.. no matter what steam cooker I use... hope that answered your question a bit :)

I didn't know white rice was bad for you, then again millions of asians might be wrong all this time. I've never heard of brown rice being used instead but you may be on to something. Why don't you ask for it next time you go to a restuarant and see what look they give you. Good luck with that.

I have actually done this - made sushi and rolls with brown rice.
It definitely adds a different flavor - a little "earthier" tasting, and not as "fresh" tasting....It's okay... something you would have to try for yourself!
Isn't sushi wonderful?

I love sushi, sashimi,etc.

If white rice isn't very good for you wouldn't we have a lot of unhealthy Asian people on the planet?
