Lifting heavy weights only effects people with a severe case of MVP. I think too many people lump everyone in the same group, thus restricting not only lifting weights, but the amount as well? I have MVP for 16 years, and have been lifting weights the whole time with no problems whatsoever, and I lift fairly heavy weights in the gym. I have never had any problems associated with this, and my Doctor encourages me to lift and do cardio. Again, my MVP is very mild, so I am sure in severe cases such activities should be avoided, but so far, so good for me. I love to lift and feel it is very beneficial to my overall health.

According to my experience if you have no symptoms, it means your doctor is correct, get yourself checked every 2 years, avoid all risk factors, you will be perfectly fine.
