LOL! We get this one all the time!
I'm a vegan, but I believe that humans should be more like fruitarians, or mostly fruitarians. By fruit, I mean a part of a plant/tree that will drop off/be removed without the plant dying. This included apples, nuts etc. It's also the most environmentally friendly diet anyone can aspire to. The bush/tree gets to live and produce more fruit, we get the fruit and by taking just the fruit, we do the tree a favour as it believes we'll poop the seeds out somewhere so another tree can grow.
I don't believe that vegetables die in agony or anything like that, but I do think that it is a waste of land to grow something and then eat it, and then have to begin the planting process over again.
My only problem with fruitarianism is that soil has been destroyed to the point where fruit (and veg for that matter) has lesser nutrients than it once did. If I lived somewhere tropical, I would consider going fruitarian. But here, in the Western world, I personally see it as pretty impossible to get a balanced fruitarian diet when fruit is so limited (especially in the UK) and have less nutriemts than they once did.
Gandhi was *almost* a fruitarian.
So, since you care so much, I imagine you're already a fruitarian?

Seriously, ask yourself that question..... Savages come on taking this to far what about those who eat meat? Thier eating dead animals that once lived and had feelings... Plants helps us breathe but, to an extent. We can keep growing plants growing but in the end animals blood will be shed for others to eat. Where's the savage in eating a meal thats freshly grown... Do you chose to say they have feelings? Okay, I'd like to say another thing would you suggest I starve b/c I don't eat meat and my reason for not eating meat is b/c my body is senstive to it. My body goes into shock and stops my respiratory system. I have bee hospitalized and usually break down in hives with little amounts of meat. So I finally just said srew this I'll eat just greens and for those of you who say well, then you must be skinny I have you know. I'm healthy and I have to take pills to keep my protein levels normal....
If this question was a joke or not rethink what you posted....

Well, they are cruel to plants if they stomp on them or something, but that's it. I don't eat any creatures with a centralized nervous system. I don't actually get how meat eaters try to defend their position of eating animals by saying that other people are cruel too. I guess it's guilt that drives people to say dumb things like that. If you think eating vegetables is cruel then become a fruititarian. They don't eat any vegetable where the plant dies if you pick it. They wait for apples to fall from the tree. Instead of calling everyone cruel, then take a stand and be compassionate. The world needs more compassionate people, not more cruel ones.

compared to animals, the plant life we devour don't have any apprehensive equipment, and as a effect, can't sense discomfort. in case you imagine vegetarians are merciless, then you actually should be satisfied with the help of fruititarians, who purely stay off fruit, which will be a healthful life form with the right options. Fruititarians stay off fruit and fruit disguised as vegetables. One very healthful foodstuff is the avocado, which has the fat we favor, between different issues. Being a fruititarian is with the help of no ability merciless, because plant life do not favor fruit to stay. they favor fruit to reproduce, yet it really is why the fruit finally falls to the floor, so as that the seeds can discover soil.

1. You eat some plants too
2. plants dont have nervous systems, animals do
3. Meat eaters indirectly kill more plants, the animals that you raise for food, HAVE TO EAT PLANTS FIRST. You're the plant murderer.

This question says one of 2 things:
1) You are really immature, and you think that it is fun to ask vegetarians these stupid questions....
2) You are really dumb, and you think that this is seriously a good question.
Maybe it's just a little bit of both...
Either way... it doesn't deserve an answer, but I will tell you anyway....
plants DO NOT have nerves/ nervous systems(for those of you in 2nd grade) that is what makes you feel sensations like pain.
plants also DO NOT have Brains... They are not aware of themselves...
Animals like cows, chickens, dogs, humans(you name it)... DO have these things, and CAN feel pain and be scared.
Stay in school. You'll need it.

I suppose it depends if they treat the plants ethically. I mean, there's a difference between, say, tearing leaves of your basil plant (cruel torture) and picking fruit off a plant (rather natural...it would fall off anyway). So grinding up a tomato or a potato can't possibly be cruel, whereas abusing innocent living plants or killing them slowly is perhaps cruel.
Or maybe plants have no feeling(s), in which case, there can probably be no cruelty to them.

Not if they are eating the fruit (the tomato, the aubergine, the zucchini, the beans, etc). The plant doesn't die or hurt, because the fruits are supposed to fall off anyway!

Yep. Can't say I don't rip into those lettuce leaves like a savage.
Grow up.
P.S. Most of the answers on here are so disturbing; what if one of you found out a friend of yours was a vegetarian. Saying they "probably kill mosquitos" too ... I don't, and neither do most vegetarians/vegans I talk to. You all need to quit relying on stereotypes and stop hating people for making a PERSONAL decision. You make me sick.
