I believe you meant to say, "defeat" the purpose.

What is the point of eating mock meats? Most veg heads grew up eating meat, so many of us still enjoy the aroma and flavor of it. Many of us became veg heads because of ethical reasons, not sensory ones. When my sister cooks up some chicken or hot dogs, yes, it smells dang good! It can even give me some cravings of my own, so instead of eating more meat and making more animals suffer, I enjoy the mock stuff. That way no animal is harmed.

If you take away all of a person's comfort foods for life, they will go nuts. It's like dieting... eat sensibly, but leave a little wiggle room once in a while. For veg heads, the mock stuff comes in handy for latent meat cravings. They help, really.

Depict? I think you mean defeat.

A lot of fake meat products help people who are trying to become vegetarian. People who exclude meat from their diet don't know many non-meat recipes for meals, and sometimes if they feel they MUST have meat they can curb the craving by having soy/veggie meats.

Vegetarians and vegans don't eat meat for religious or ethical reasons, or to suit their dietary needs (for those who can't digest meat because it makes them sick). It's just imitation, so why not? Things like soy chicken make a great ingredient for vegetarian stir fry, and fake pepperoni go good for vegetarian pizza.

It doesn't really defeat any purposes. No animals are being harmed.

No. The animal being replaced by a meat analog couldn't care less how your food tastes, as long as it doesn't come from *them*.

In addition, many people become vegetarian for ethical and/or health reasons, but want a guilt-free, healthier version of their former comfort foods.

The analogs also make it easier to stay veg*an because they satisfy the cravings many people have for meat, and that's definitely a good thing.

An article in a science magazine claimed that when autopsy was performed on meat eaters there was about 15 pounds of undigested scum in the bowels that caused all kinds of cancer problems. Secondly, meat contains a high degree of testosterone which is the leading cause of prostrate cancer. Thirdly I can see no reason to consume anything that once had a face. Veggie meat does not contain all the fat of meat so it has a tendency to fall apart. There are a large selections or veggie burgers products on the market. With the proper seasoning and accoutrements one can hardly tell the difference. My mouth still waters when my wife cooks a roast or we barbeque spare ribs on the grill. My wife is very understanding because she normally will cook two meals at the same time—one for the family and another for me. One of my favorite dishes is corn meal fried in olive oil and covered with a fresh garlic puree.

you haven't read "the Mad Cowboy"

He used to raise cattle for the industry, and realized what he was doing, he still would love to eat meat, but won't because of the methods.

As vegetarians we should be glad that products like this exist and are providing a means for people to choose this lifestyle.
Because you don't see the point, it doesn't mean that they are silly or useless.

Put yourself in the shoes of others, who grew up on a meat based diet and are trying to adapt to the vegetarian lifestyle.

There are no longer any execs to "going back" different than it pleasurable your opt to accomplish that. What have been your motives for turning out to be vegetarian? If those motives nonetheless persist with, then do no longer "lapse". in the event that they do no longer nonetheless persist with, then consume meat in case you elect. 7 or 8 months isn't very long, and the adaptive approaches interior your intestine won't have replaced you plenty. you would be waiting to consume meat with an identical ease and convenience as you're able to desire to in the previous turning out to be vegetarian. you will in basic terms earnings weight in case you initiate off ingesting an unbalanced eating ordinary or suddenly do much less exercising. Persoanlly, i might motivate you to maintain on the "V" direction, yet that's basically my opinion. i've got been on it for 27 years.

When there are alternatives I choose these instead. The companies manufacturing these replica products are trying to appeal to people who are not vegetarian but are eating vegetarian products for straight-out health reasons. But instead of calling something a steak maybe we can call it a cutlet. Instead of a hamburger call it a paddy.

I've never written a letter to these guys. Maybe I should!

Perhaps because its familiar to most, and a lot of people prefer to not eat meat because its fattening (so they still like the taste of meat), rather than not eating meat for ethical or spiritual reasons.

I'd prefer if companies would just make the meat alternatives taste better than meat! :O)

Much of vegetarianism and veganism is due to the fact that people do not agree with how animals for food are treated. As weird as that seems that is why they don't eat meat. Slaughterhouse are some of the worst places on the planet and also the way these animals are "grown" is why they don't eat it. so they like the taste of meat they just don't like how animals are treated, if that makes sense

I don't think it defeats the purpose. People usually become vegetarian or vegan because of ethical, environmental, or health issues. I've only ever met one vegetarian who did it because he simply didn't like meat. (He describes himself as having "rejected" it as a child.)

Funny note: Apparently there are people in charge of creating faux meals for vegetarian and vegan actors who are supposed to eat meat on screen. I think that's cool.
