I don't have great sites... but I could give you the ones I've seen with good information.
http://www.vrg.org/nutrition/

http://www.veganpeace.com/nutrient_information/nutrient_information.htm

http://www.vegan.org/going_vegan/eating_vegan/index.html

http://www.goveg.com/ (I don't like their lack of nutrition information... but this site does have good meat/dairy substitutes.)

http://www.peta.org/mc/factsheet_display.asp?ID=72 (hidden animal ingredients)

http://www.vegcooking.com/ (recipes)

http://www.foodfightgrocery.com/ (online vegan store-thanks Greenghost)

http://www.veganstore.com/ (another online vegan store)

yeah, you might have a hard time finding some things where you live, but there is always something that you could do...
There might be some kind of Vegan/ health food store near you... you could check there for some "special" ingredients... or you could make things at home... soy milk... tofu... it can all be made at home... In recipes... there are tons of substitutes for eggs/ and milk... just be creative:) And as far as vegan veggie burgers... If you can't find any/ the ones you do find are too expensive... Just get some common ingredients... like beans... Process them together w/ some onions and garlic, spices... press them together into patties then bake them or fry them... bean burgers are good:) Feel free to e-mail me with any other questions... I like to help people(lol)... and I don't have a real life...um yeah.

Good luck.

Hi,

I have been an ova lactate vegetarian for twenty years. What this means is I eat everything but meat. I consume milk products, which includes cheese, eggs and egg products. On many occasions I have tried to take that final step to become a vegan. Unfortunately, I found that last step a bit to wide for my stride and always fell short.

Now I have replaced dairy milk with soy products. I still have a problem with eggs. There are a lot of vegan magazines that offer diff rent recipes. Part of my problem is there, at least for me, very few taste vegan dishes. The artificial meats are just a bunch of fine chopped vegetables held to together with some form of binder.

I have found that trying Middle Eastern restaurants can help because their eating habits are different and a lot non- animal protein is used. I would see a nutritionist about balancing your protein, carbs and fats. Not all fats are animal based.

Then again, if you live in a large city or collage town you can generally find vegan restaurants and they are happy to share ideas and recipes.

First of all, best of luck with your endeavor. I know what a strong commitment being vegan requires and also that has so much more to do with life than just food. I know it is not a website, but when I went vegan about 6 or 7 years ago, I read The Vegan Sourcebook (by Joanne Stepaniak) and found it really helpful.

As for websites, I would recommend:

http://www.veganvillage.co.uk/fddrnk.htm

http://veganforlife.org/

http://www.vegan.org/

http://www.veganoutreach.org/

http://govegan.net/

http://www.earthsave.org/

http://www.veganstore.com/

http://www.veganmania.com/index.php

Happy surfing!

To be vegan you also need to exclude animal products, which are lurking around every corner. Some food colouring and ingredients are named in such a way that it's near impossible to tell if they're animal- or dairy-based unless you research them.

http://www.isitvegan.info/ - This site will give a lot of information on vegan-friendly foods. It is from the UK, though, so it may not match-up to all of your dietary preferences in terms of products.

http://web.archive.org/web/20030422182228/animal-ingredients.hypermart.net/ - This site gives the A to Z list of animal/dairy ingredients vegans need to avoid.

http://vegcooking.com/VegFastFood.asp - This is a compiled list of safe fast food options for dining on-the-go.

http://www.vegdining.com/Home.cfm - And this is a list of vegan restaurants worldwide, if you're interested.

Oh, one more.

http://www.caringconsumer.com/searchcompany.asp - If you want products that are safe for you to use, non-animal-tested, check this site out.

Hope this helps. :)
