My boyfriend gave me his blood results after he donated blood to the Red Cross to prove to me that he doesn't have anything. (I haven't slept w/ him yet) Now as far as hep b goes, they only test for the core antibody and it was negative. I am not concerned if he's immune or not, so is this test sufficient enough to tell me that he doens't have hep b? Or should I have him go get the antigen test or is this not necessary?

From what I understand, the blood tests done when you give blood are fairly "elementary"... I don't think they are as thorough as a doctor's visit blood test.

Also, you should be really concerned about all sorts of STDs, not just hepititis.

If I were you, I would ask him to go to a doctor for a thorough work-up. Also, take the proper precautions... visit Planned Parenthood first to talk about all different contraceptive options and ways to protect yourself.

I suggest that you both go in together for testing and counseling as well.

Being knowledgeable about STDs is great, however, when you invest your trust in another person, you also place your health and your future in their hands as well.

Prior testing is irrelevant for me. Character is more important. Is the person trustworthy? Is the person likely to cheat? Is the person likely to put you at risk after the testing is said and done?
