We have problems getting my son Lantus since we are on the pump so I am limited to how many bottles I get per month. I keep the same bottle for 2 months opened, using it at room temperature and I have never had a problem with it. Works the same at day 60 as day 1 with my son. This being said if you can afford to replace the bottle everyday then you should do that because that is what is recommended. The website states the following:

"LANTUS must only be used if the solution is clear and colorless with no particles visible (see DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION, Preparation and Handling). "

Storage:
Unopened Vial/Cartridge system:
Unopened LANTUS vials and cartridge systems should be stored in a refrigerator, 36°F - 46°F (2°C - 8°C). LANTUS should not be stored in the freezer and it should not be allowed to freeze. Discard if it has been frozen.

Open (In-Use) Vial/Cartridge system:
Opened vials, whether or not refrigerated, must be used within 28 days after the first use. They must be discarded if not used within 28 days. If refrigeration is not possible, the open vial can be kept unrefrigerated for up to 28 days away from direct heat and light, as long as the temperature is not greater than 86°F (30°C).

The opened (in-use) cartridge system in OptiClik® should NOT be refrigerated but should be kept at room temperature (below 86°F [30°C]) away from direct heat and light. The opened (in-use) cartridge system in OptiClik® kept at room temperature must be discarded after 28 days. Do not store OptiClik®, with or without cartridge system, in a refrigerator at any time.

LANTUS should not be stored in the freezer and it should not be allowed to freeze. Discard if it has been frozen.

This website was Rev. April 2006 so make sure if you have any questions to contact the manufacturer.

i agree 28 days is the best time use, however most insulins work past those 28 days. keep it out of extremem heats, so no leaving it in the car or anything.
