if you have herpes, is your body always fighting the virus. Does the virus constantly divide but since your immune system can destroy them as soon as they form, you do not get an outbreak? or is it that the virus hides in the nerves and lays dormant without dividing and occupying the immune system but only starts to divide when lets say exposed to extreme sun or other factors? anyone??

herpes lies dormant until something triggers an outbreak, the causes can be widely varied, and the virus only multiplies in the area of the outbreak, once the out break heals, you shed virus for another two weeks and then it goes dormant again.
