Yes, but I believe they do not tell you exactly what you were infected with. So if they send you a letter saying we could not use your blood, then go to the doctor or lab to get an STD test. If you do not get a letter, you were probably not positive for anything.

usually the redcross has a criteria for donating blood. if you have been sexually active and are unsure if you have an std its not fair to donate blood. while im 99.9% sure that the red cross tests blood before it is sent out im not sure that they do not take down you information to call you back. if you are worried about stds go to a free clinic, that way you will know if you are able to donate blood.

They'll test for HIV and syphilis but not other STDs. You need to wait about 14 days after having sex for it to work, maybe three weeks. Don't have unprotected sex and rely on this. Also, they ask a lot of hard questions about who you're sleeping with and whether you've gotten tattoos or piercings. If you don't think your blood should go into anyone else, ask if you can donate for research. They'll still test it, but at least you won't endanger anyone.

Please don't do this!

Most Health Departments will test you for free.

The Red Cross will test your blood, but if it may be tainted why risk it getting to a baby or a heart patient?

Do the right thing, use your doctor or Health Department and only donate if you know your blood is not tainted!!

Before they actually extract a whole bag of blood from you, they get about a 5 to 10 ml sample to test it for hemoglobin and hematocrit. Then they extract the blood from you and that's when they test it for HIV, Hepatitis, Syphilis, and Malaria.

Go to the health department. Don't waste the Red Cross' time!

I guess thats one way of getting out of paying for a test. Because they are definately not going to use your blood if you have any diseases.
