Tell your mom you think you have a yeast infection and that you want to get it checked out by your doctor to make sure you are treating it the right way. The doctor is not going to tell your mother you are sexually active, that is between you and the doctor...but make sure you let the doctor know.
Most likely it's a simple infection that can be treated with either an OTC or an antibiotic, but you shouldn't self medicate if you don't know for sure what the problem is.
Yeast infections are not STD, you can get them from sex, but it is certainly not the only way to get one.
You may want to try to be very careful and not itch that area, don't wash it with soap and wear cotton panties...that may help. You should also make sure you are eating plenty of yogurt with live active cultures.

It could be an infection. I'm not trying to be gross but if you have a weird odor (and you would definately notice) it could be a yeast infection. If there is no odor you could have a urinary tract infection ... it will burn more as you urinate. If you shave in that area you could have a nick (and they take an extremely long time to heal there). If your bf caught something you could have contracted it- some std's are lifelong AND life treatening.
Chances are it's something minor but you can't treat it unless you know what it is. I would contact your OB/GYN...or the local health dept. Try to get to one of these places for your own well-being. If you need to...talk to your mom or step mom or sister or somebody because infections are VERY common and they will definately understand.
Don't be embarresed- it happens.
If it is sore on the outside of your body you can buy some anti-itch/ anti-burn cream but if it is inside you have to be careful what you use.
Also- it could be an allergic reaction to a certain soap, bubble bath, etc.- find out so you can relax.
Good luck and I hope you feel better soon.

You probably have some sort of vaginal infection, but it is impossible to say if it is a yeast infection or something else. That will require a trip to the doctor, and that means you need to speak with your mom. Vaginal infections are common enough problems for women that having one doesn't mean anything one way or another. I doubt your mom is going to think anything bad, as you put it- although she may ask some questions that may make you squirm. You simply need to visit the doctor for an exam and to be treated correctly. And if you are sexually active, you really should be seeing a gyn for pap smears and testing to make sure you don't catch something you don't want, or are treated quickly and correctly if you do. It's not that big of a deal, an exam, a q-tip to swab a sample, and a prescription to use to get rid of it. You could use over the counter preparations if it is simply a yeast infection, but since you don't know that's what it is, you really need to see a doctor. Just talk with your mom and explain the problem. She won't turn purple and kill you. It happens, and it's no big deal to take care of. If you are really, really desparate to avoid telling them, then see if you can make it to a Planned Parenthood clinic, or other local health clinic. If you are in school, ask the nurse- she'll know where to point you for help.

calm down and go and get some vinegar from the kitchen... (white distilled vinegar) take an 8 oz. glass of warm water and put 6 or 8 cap fulls of vinegar in the water then sit on the toilett or in the shower spread your legs and pour it over you privacy... it will burn a little bit but i promise that it will not be there in the morning no more itching or burning....after you pour it over your area go ahead and take a shower and clean it with warm soapy water...i promise it will work, you have a yeast infection... you can look it up on line and i promise you will probably have all the symtoms they list for it.... one more thing i had these all the time when i was young 15, 16, 17 and had been with the same and only guy every since i was 13 turned out that he was the one cheating which was causing me the infections which is also what spreads the virus that causes cervical cancer which is why the have a shot to prevent it now...if this becomes a common problem i would have a talk with him.. i am in no way saying he is cheating because this is quite normal for women but if it is happening frequently than i would put the blame right on him....

All of the people who responded gave you their opinions. Here's mine:
It sounds like you have a either a yeast infection or a bladder infection.
For treatment, if you don't want your parents to find out, go to your local Planned Parenthood office. You will be examined and treated. They will not tell anyone.
Here's something else...your boyfriend will have to be checked out and treated as well. Yeast infections and bladder infections are contagious and he could have contracted either from you during sexual intercourse. You need to ask him if he is having any symptoms. Yes, that will be embarrassing. The people at Planned Parenthood can and will explain to him that a yeast infection or a urinary tract infection is common and does NOT mean that you have an STD. He can be treated there as well.
I advise you to be screened for STDs while you're at PP. You can email me and let me know how it turned out. Good luck.

Serious only-- does it smell bad? is it yellow discharge? ---you most likely have a yeast infection and you can't get better without going and getting meds- go to a women's health center- THEY CANNOT NOTIFY YOUR PARENTS OR WILL ANYONE FROM YOU HOME EVEN KNOW YOU WERE THERE--you can get the antibiotic cream and get a pap exam because I assume you are young and you never had one--they don't hurt- and they may tell you that your boyfriend should see a doc also - because if you have it, he does too. No biggie honest, and it's completely confidential- please go tomorrow as soon as possible because I KNOW how horrible that feels and you don't want to land up getting a bladder infection too. OUCH they really hurt too...good luck to you and while you're there, why don't you ask all the questions you really need answered, don't be afraid, that's what they are there for to help young girls and maybe ask about birth control and the risk of STDS and how to avoid it all.........good luck to you and your boyfriend...............

yes i have experienced this...it sounds like a common yeast infection..you need to get monistat cream the 7 day one..not anything less than 7 days will clear a yeast infection and follow the directions...its best used in the nightime so the cream stays put...you are not alone i have had this so many times i can't count...its part of life it happens...also its good to be seeing a gynecologist especially if you are sexually active to test for pap smears and std's...don't worry though most std's have no symptoms but its a good idea to get checked to make sure look for a health clinic that will take you confidentially and your parents won't have to know that u went..but hey remember your parents love you its best to just be honest..the bacteria can grow on its own its so common don't worry and take care

It sounds like you might have a yeast infection (this is bacteria related)...please look up a description on the net. I recommend Monistat. Have you tried this? This should help dramatically with your discomfort.
Although you might think that this would be embarrasing, women get yeast infections for a variety of reasons that are unrelated to intercourse. Complain to your mother about your discomfort and seek to see a doctor. You REALLY should seek the advise of a doctor about this, because it could be something else.

That happens to us. That's why we are supposed to wipe front to back. Try eating some yogurt with the real enzymes. You could try to sit in a tub with some warm water and maybe some Aveeno bath product. Don't wear thongs. Wear underwear with a cotton crotch. This has to be driving you crazy. I think you should tell your mom that you think you have a yeast infection. I would hope she would understand. I hope you get fixed up real soon. Avoiding an issue doesn't change it and sometimes it only gets worse.

this MAY be a urinary tract infection, which is a very common infection of the urinary tract. Sometimes, bacteria can infect this area.
If you have a UTI, you'll usually experience burning sensation while peeing, frequently needing to pee, and even a discoloration of your urine.
I know some great home remedies for UTI at this site and it gives you some more info too: http://www.realhomeremedies.com
You should still consult a doctor just to make sure.
