My girlfriend got the hpv shot a while ago and she's going for her second one on May 10th. About a week a go we had unprotected sex twice; we were both virgins. Before and during the shot we have been having oral sex atleast once a week. She never did anything with any other boy except a kiss before me. I had oral sex with 2 other girls before her (3 times in total). My question is how much did that effect her HPV shot efficeincy? If we use condoms can we have sex again?

I don't have HPV and we are going to stay faithful. It was just those two times we didn't use a condom we will from now on. So are you saying that it is ok if her and I have sex only with each other and with a condom?

The person above me is wrong.

A girl/woman can get the vaccine whether they have had sex or not. They can also get the vaccine whether they have HPV or not.

It's recommend young girls get the vaccine because chances are they have not had sex yet. And, if they haven't had sex yet, then chances are unlikely that they have been exposed to HPV. If a girl has had sex before, it just means chances of her being exposed to the virus are greater compared to a virgin.

Also, many doctors (including mine) suggest ALL women get the new vaccine, whether they have HPV or not. If a girl/woman already has HPV it won't cure her of it, but it can possibly prevent her from contracting a kind of HPV she doesn't already have. The vaccine protects against 4 different kinds of HPV (two known to cause about 70% of cervical cancer and two known to cause about 90% of genital warts). Say, for example, a young girl only has one kind of HPV that the vaccine prevents. Theoretically, if she gets the vaccine, she'll be protected from contracting the other 3 kinds of HPV that the vaccine protects against.

If you have HPV, your girlfriend may have contracted it from you already. Since she hasn't finished her set of shots (total of 3), she is still at risk of contracting any of those 4 kinds the vaccine protects against. Condoms help prevent the spread of HPV and other STDs but they are not 100% effective!

I dont' see how you could have HPV if you've been a virgin before having sex with your girlfriend. If you're both truthful, you're probably both safe. You can have sex if you use condoms. Question: what are you doing for birth control? You can still get pregnant -- the HPV shot doesn't help with that.

did the doctor specifically say that to you? because i was never informed. the shot isn't even necessarily for sexually active women either.
