I would get a second opinion, if the dr was that slack to let you know 6 mths ago I wouldn't go back. If she's been having breast milk for 6 mths and as you say she's ahead on milestones and weight I'd keep giving breast milk until you get a second opinion to confirm either way. I don't really believe in sueing I think it happens too often but I would certainly write a letter to whoever is in charge and prehaps get some tv current affairs show to do a story there may be other people who aren't as lucky with a healthy baby, people do need to know and that won't necessarily happen by sueing them.

If the baby and mother are otherwise healthy,
it shouldn't be a problem.
The issue is the mother's blood getting into the milk, and
then the bloody milk somehow gets into the baby's
blood.
That requires some sort of laceration in the milk
gland and the Baby's GI tract.
Not impossible, but not very likely.

i am sure there may be a risk. but its not then end of the world if you cant breast feed your baby. plus if the mother has hiv, she has a bad immune system, and really the breast milk doesnt have much nutritional value or advantage over bottle milk.

Yes, delivery and breastfeeding are a way for a baby to be infected if mom has the virus.
