Pap smears should be done every single year and they should be done more if a woman has ever had an abnormal pap smear (about 3 or 4 times a year).
I have had a couple abnormal pap smears in the past and I've been going to my OBGYN every 4 months for the last 6 years!
You should definetly talk to your doctor about this and see how often they think you should go. Good luck!

It is changes which are found in Smear which dictates how often you need a smear.
If smear noted something unusual then smear should be done 6 monthly or yearly depending on that.
Don't worry, if you are in UK, there is excellent central system of follow up where chance of you missing or delayed smear are very remote, unless you chose not to have one

It depends on the amount of change the infection is causing to your cervical cells. Each abnormal smear is assessed at the lab by the cytologist. He/she decides on the basis of the smear appearance when the next smear should be checked, this information forms part of the smear result, it is not predetermined.

Every three years.Unless their are any problems in which case you may be invited back sooner.
GP surgeries get points (and therefore money) for carring out smears so usually will prompt you to come along when it's due
