I have had terrible swelling in my left foot and lower leg for months. The dr. gave me Lasix and took blood tests.
An xray showed the enlarged heart. I had a nuclear stress test which came back with good results. So, I guess no clots. My thyroid is 7.?? and I also was given medication for that. However, my foot and leg are still swollen. My dr. said the blood is getting to my foot but can't get back to my heart. I hope this info helps to clarify my question. I'm just searching, trying to learn what or what not to do. Thank you to those who have already sent answers.

Nope, they are not the same. An enlarged heart is something you have. CHF is something you go into. Just because your heart is enlarged doesn't mean it's not pumping well. Heart failure on the other hand means for one reason or another at that particular time your heart is not able to pump as efficiently as it could, so fluid builds up. I have an enlarged heart for the last 11 years. A person cannot stay in a constant state of heart failure unless they are dying. You can have an enlarged heart for a long time and never have symptoms. Just watch your diet, take your meds, reduce stress and seek help when you need it.

Certainly not ! Enlarge heart may not be having congestive heart failure but congestive heart failure surely will have enlarged heart !See benine Left ventricular hypertrophy of the heart also can gives rise enlarged heart ! Pericardial effusion also can give enlarged heart appearance !But enlarged heart may or may not cause any problem with routine life but this congestive heart failure certainly will cause many problems ! Always YouRs mE!

Yes, in common term it can be used (CCF) if the patient develops, edema of the feet or generalised edema.
Enlarged heart has multiple causes that is myopathies, LBBB etc.
CCF is a secondary due to which the heart is unable to deliver kidneys with blood, hence filtration is stopped, resulting in accumulation of fluid in the body.

nope. an enlarged heart is just that. congestive heart failure is do to an inability of the heart to pump blood well. They may be linked though.
