Yes, they are habit forming, in the long run and than it becomes a compulsion inspite the disease has been cured.
In this stressed society and alcoholics era virtually antacids have more marketing, and thanks to the doctors who don't warn their patients of the drastic side effects.

The simplist of things... like chewing gum.. can be habit forming to some people by definition.. if people chew gum and get nervous or tense when they run out and dont have any.. that could easily be considered a withdrawal symptom.
Some people eat antacids after every meal or snack becase they fear getting the heartburn.. not because they already have it.
Can you be addicted to things like gum or antacids? probably not .. but they are certainly habit forming.
So, I would say yes.. but not from a clinical standpoint.
It all depends on where the line is drawn between a habit and an addiction. That line is in different places for different things with different people.

I would recomend taking a PPI (Proton Pump Inhibitor) daily and then you will not have to worry about having any episodes while you are out and about. These actually stop you from producing as much acid in your stomach. It takes about 5-7 days before you will notice any results but it works great. You can stop worrying about eating specific foods. Over the counter PPI - Prilosec Takink baking soda can mess with your electrolytes.

I wouldn't necessarily say "habit forming." It's not like they are narcotics or something. I could say that I was addicted to them, but it's just that if I don't take them, I suffer. So, in the long run.... I wouldn't say that.
