Increase your fiber, decrease your fats, and exercises more.

One thing that will help lower your triglycerides is fish oil pills (omega 3's). Doctors will recommend omega 3's with pharmaceuticals that help reduce ones triglycerides.

This is a very wide open question with a two part answer. Are you a diabetic? If you are concerned about high blood glucose because you are a diabetic, you would avoid simple carbohydrates ( foods that are high in sugar, corn syrup, high fructose sweetners) and eat more complex carbohydrates ( whole wheat breads and grains without too much added sugar) along with protien ( meats, legumes, fish & poultry) as well as vegetables. Be careful though as some vegetables are considered starches because of their caloric and gycemic index, such as peas, corn, legume type beans, certain squashes), these are not bad vegetables but if you have for example, a 4oz piece of chicken with mashed potatoes and corn you are actually having two servings of starch, a better meal would be 4 oz. chicken, mashed potatoes and broccoli. or if you prefer corn have 4 oz. chicken , corn and broccoli. ( I hope I am making sense. Now for the tryglycerides, these are usually elevated when you eat a lot of, fats, concentrated sweets ( cookies, cakes, simple carbohydrates), alcohol can also elevate triglycerides. The one good thing about tryglycerides is that they fluctuate. For example, what you eat the day before your blood work is done ( sweets, wine, a hearty meal with some fat ) will most likely give a high tryglyceride value, you may have the test again 3 days later but have not have eaten a fatty meal, no alcohol and no desserts and it will give a lower result. If you need more help you can PM me at my yahoo address, I will not mind because the answer really requires a lot more info than I can give on this page. I am a nutrtionist. Good luck, One more very important thing, only eat when your actually hungry, dont over eat, and exercise. Exercise will definitely help to keep your blood glucose levels down as well as your trigycerides and your total lipid profile.

Read labels, it's very important.

The best foods are chicken, turkey both without skin, lean meats, fresh fish, fat free dairy or low fat dairy, egg whites, no limits, whole eggs, limit to 4 a week, nuts and seeds but don't overdue, fresh fruits and vegetables. Whole grains, like brown rice, barley, flax, beans, whole grain breads, etc. The fresher and closer to nature your food is the better. Broil, grill or bake your foods. Olive Oil. Fresh herbs an spices. Besides olive oil, I use olive oil Pam and butter flavored Pam. Fiber is very important, if your not used to eating fiber, start slowly, it can be very gassy and if you don't have a dog who will you blame?

Stay away from whole milk products, fatty meats, anything that has trans fat. Sorry no fried food, unless oven fried. Most margarine's have trans fats, so read the labels, they now make some without, that claim to lower your cholesterol and in turn triglycerides.

I hope this helps, good luck.

a high fiber intake of 30+ grams daily will have the greatest effect on reducing total cholesterol values. reducing the saturated fatty food (LDL cholestrol) intake along with that and increasing the unsaturated fat (HDL cholesterol) intake to improve the HDL-C:LDL-C ratio
