I'm 33 weeks pregnant and I've been doing insulin injections 4 times a day for the last week due to gestational diabetes. This morning on one of my injections, there was a bit of blood in the syringe when I withdrew the needle. There was only a drop of blood on my skin not a lot by any means.

What would have caused this?

Any help would be much appreciated.

You probably just nicked a blood vessel. No need to worry. You might develop a bruise from the injection. It happens all the time. If it happens again, just hold light pressure against the injection site for a minute or so. Blood vessels are so tiny that you can't see them and since there are millions of them, you can easily hit one.

Type 1 Insulin Dependent Diabetic.

yep you just nicked a vein, no big deal. Ive had it to the point of a large drop of blood, like the size of a dime before. the most that will happen is you may get a bruise around the area.

I am a type 1 and I take 5 shots a day and this does happen from time to time even if you are an old pro at it. Don't worry its fine.

It isn't anything to be concerned about. You nicked a cappilary, that's all. You'll likely see a bruse develop and that is normal too.

It happens to me once or twice a month.

you could have accidentally aspirated the needle and withdrew blood that way.
