Cold sores are the herpes virus.
Typically HSV-1 for cold sores but it may be type 2 infection.
You can be infected at either area of the body with Type 1 or type 2, depends on what you have been exposed to.
cold sores or fever blisters are just a "nice" name for oral herpes. Some people don't know this, however even many of those that do know its herpes are still unaware that a cold sore can spread hsv1 to the genital area - something that is happening more and more.
You can go to the blog: Cold sore= oral herpes? on http://www.positivesingles.com/blog/hgirlemily. here you will get more details

I got identified with herpes (type 2) about five years back, when I was still attending college and had a silly one-night stand. I know loads of people say this, but I swear I had never done that sort of thing before. I just made a massive mistake that one time and all of a sudden I felt like I was going to have to live with the consequences for my entire life. The hardest part was feeling I could never date other men again. After all, who wants to go out with someone who has sores round her "you know what" area? But since a friend shared this video https://tr.im/ZqhUJ everything got better.
Not only was I able to eliminate all remnants of the herpes virus from my body in less than 21 days, but I was also able to start dating again. I even met the guy of my dreams and I'm so lucky to write that just a week ago, in front of everyone in a busy restaurant, he got down on one knee and proposed to me!!! This system provided the chance to be happy and experience true love again. Now I hope that I can help others by sharing this story.

cold sores are not nessisarily oral herpes. Cold sores can come from other things, most of the time an infection but no to be mistaken with herpes. and infection will clear to where herpes is in your system forever.
Best thing though it to always get them checked out.

Yes, but it is a different strand from genital herpes. They are caused by (HSV-1) and the one that causes genital (HSV-2).
However, it is possible to transfer the different viruses to other areas of the body. HSV1 (or cold sores) can be transferred to the genitals through oral sex. In the same way, HSV2 (or genital herpes) can be transferred to the mouth.
Check out this website it will tell you all you need to know. http://www.choraphor.us/herpes_information/cold_sores.htm

Cold sores are herpies but not the herpies you think. There are two forms of herpies. Doctors claim most everyone has the cold sore form. Other parts of your body can also break out but again, not the sexual herpies.
