Who have just decided they want to be a vegetarian without learning any facts about it? There are all these questions on here from people wanting to be vegetarian and they just want someone else to give them a full meal plan including recipes-or questions and answers from people who say they are vegetarian but still believe you have to takes supplements, or that children somehow REQUIRE meat to eat healthily. These are the people who eat all wrong and get unhealthy and give all vegetarians a bad reputation! I'm not even a full vegetarian-I still eat fish and dairy and yet I know better than that!

OK, CJ-if you're that into labels I'm not a vegetarian at all-but if you're so militant about it doesn't it bother YOU that these people are going out there and becoming anemic and malnourished so all the meat eaters can justify their diet? And if these people really wanted to change their eating habits they would be doing their own research and there is tons of info on the internet as well as in books. Can you seriously believe that if they want the lifestyle handed to them on a platter that they will take the trouble to maintain it? And who ends up getting most of the flack?-the serious people who learned and made the effort and quietly go about their business.

Well, some understood my point and some didn't. Those who don't bother to do the research are those who have health problems, etc., that keeps others believing that it's an unhealthy lifestyle. Thus all the questions about why meat eaters give vegetarians a hard time...

If you eat fish you are not vegetarian, not even part. Don't consider it. Fish are animals too.

I would prefer that people read about it first, yes. However many would rather get the info straight from real life people experienced with vegetarianism or Veganism and wile I don't think it should be someones only source of information, I don't see a problem with it.
Your question is more complicated than I think you realize. Their are many factors that may cause someone to seek a full meal plan from an experienced vegetarian or Vegan. The past two blog entry's at the blog I run deal with this issue a bit.
Just realize that wile I agree with you that most of the people asking questions like this are just lazy and don't want to pick up a book. some people still don't understand how we (meaning real vegetarians and Vegans) eat the way we do, therefore they ask questions that seem stupid to us. I think everyone benefits from the experienced members treating every question as a serious one unless you are sure it is meant in a less than serious way. Just my .02

I'm sure a lot of people started out knowing close to nothing about vegetarianism, I know I did; but I did do my own research. I can't remember what made me want to go vegetarian, I just remember spending hours and hours reading all I could on www.GoVeg.com and going to Google for anything else I wanted to learn more about. The only supplement I think may be needed is a bit of calcium.
Keep in mind, the U.S. has taught children that the food chart is the perfect formula for a healthy life and has been taught there for God only knows how long. So it will be quite common to find people who believe meat is required for anyone to be well, which we know now is false but still haven't started telling kids that yet
I can see why you're frustrated by these lazy kids who just think "Hey I wanna be vegan, tell me what to eat, buy, avoid, what I should know.." and so on, it's a bit annoying to me too, but it's such a small thing to get so angry about, and I don't understand how people who eat unhealthily are giving us bad reputations...?

I used to be a "regular" on the diet & fitness questions board, and the questions were all the same ... basically, give me a whole workout plan ... tell me everything I should eat in one day ... how many calories EXACTLY can I eat in one day ... it's people who just can't seem to be bothered by doing their own research. I usually don't answer questions like those because they ought to find out their information themselves so they can LEARN something along the way instead of being spoon fed information. But I wouldn't say it gives vegetarians a bad name ... they're just wanting quick answers. What can ya do. This is Yahoo Answers ... LOL.

I would say "these people" are trying to do what is right for their health by changing their eating habits.
You have to start somewhere. And asking questions is a great start.
In order to learn, you have to have input. The ones answering questions are here to serve the purpose of giving input to the ones that need it...not to judge.
If you have a problem with answering such questions...then don't do it.
If you have a problem with reading such questions...then don't read them or go to another category.
We are all here to learn...so be nice.

A lot of young people. There are quite a number of good books that cover a lot of these topics.
Although in today's world, people tend to look for things on the net, the library is something of an "ancient" thing.

it's OK. If they want to go vegetarian on a whim, so what? It's like a smoker that suddenly say they want to stop smoking. Do you want them to stop smoking or continue smoking?
